Cast From Left to Right: B.D Wong, Dann Florek, Michaela McManus, Christopher Meloni, Mariska Hargitay, Ice-T, Richard Belzer and Tamara Tunie This hard-hitting and emotional series from NBC's "Law & Order" brand chronicles the life and crimes of the Special Victims Unit of the New York Police Department, the elite squad of detectives who investigate sexually based crimes. Created by Emmy Award-winning producer Dick Wolf, "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" is now entering its ninth season. The program has received numerous citations from community-based organizations for the social issues it tackles, and the cast members are frequently recognized for the work they do off-screen to promote personal health and safety and other volunteer efforts and initiatives. The drama follows Detective Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni), a seasoned veteran of the unit who has seen it all, and his partner, Detective Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay), whose difficult past -- a product of rape -- is the reason she joined the unit. Meloni is recognized as one of the most versatile actors today, taking on challenging and diverse roles in both television and film. He is well known for his portrayal of the duplicitous inmate Chris Keller on HBO's critically praised series "Oz." He moved to the right side of the law, however, on "Law & Order: SVU" where he was nominated for his first Emmy Award in 2006 as Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. In 2007, Hargitay (Detective Benson) garnered her third Emmy nomination for Lead Actress in a Drama Series. In 2006 she received her third SAG nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series for her portrayal of Detective Benson. In 2005, Hargitay earned her first Golden Globe Award for Lead Actress in a Drama Series for the role and her second Emmy nomination; and in 2004, both an Emmy and a SAG nomination in the same category. Captain Donald Cragen, (Dann Florek, reprising the role he played on the first three seasons of "Law & Order" 1990-1993), oversees the unit with his tough but supportive approach to the team's complex cases, guiding the squad through the challenges they face every day. Detective John Munch, (Richard Belzer, "Homicide: Life on the Street"), a transfer from Baltimore's homicide unit, brings his acerbic wit, conspiracy theories and street-honed investigative skills to the team. And his partner, Detective Odafin "Fin" Tutuola (Ice-T), adds his unique sense of humor and investigative experience, making him a formidable match for Munch. Assistant District Attorney Kim Greylek (Michaela McManus) brings closure to the intense investigations with her legal expertise. She just joined for the tenth season succeeding ADA Casey Novak (Diane Neal) and ADA Alexandra Cabot (Stephanie March). Forensic psychiatrist, George Huang (B.D. Wong), whose insight into the minds of the accused often provides significant clues that lead to the resolution of a case, and Medical Examiner Melinda Warner (Tamara Tunie), lends her skills to uncover forensic evidence. I must say i have fallen in love with this show it is emotional hard hitting and will keep you at the edge of your seat. And did anyone notice the ME's name is Melinda Warner lol remind you guys of anyone. And Michaela McManus just joined this season you guys might know her from One Tree Hill. So what do you guys think

I've been watching since S5 or 6. I forget. I LOVE IT!
Melinda Warner...oh, get connection. LOL
Michaela... *sighs* She's gotten better. At the beginning I wasn't a fan of "Lindsey" being the new ADA, but she's okay.
My friend said Stephanie March (ALEX CABOT) will return for a few eps. I'm so excited. I love Alex.

Hey Drama here is the story. I got the story from yahoo and tv.com
"After several years in hiding, Assistant District Attorney Alexandra Cabot is getting ready to come out into the public once again. The once-regular Law & Order: SVU character will be returning for a guest arc on the popular NBC program, the network announced today.
Stephanie March has signed on to reprise her role for six episodes, which will begin on February 17. Cabot left the show in 2005 after joining the Witness Protection Program following death threats from a drug cartel. She briefly returned for a guest appearance in 2007 as a witness in a high-profile murder case and disappeared again under a new identity, and was part of Dick Wolf's short-lived Conviction.
"SVU is like an old flame," March said in a statement. "Every time I run into it I think, 'Hmmm.....what if?' I look forward to spending some time working with a production that has always been so rewarding for me."

SVU is definitely the best L&O. The characters have the best chemistry, the storylines are most interesting, and...I don't know, there's just something that really makes it lovable that the other two don't have.
It's too bad Michaela had to join the cast though. She's definitely not my favorite actress (and that's not just because I didn't like her character on OTH).
I'm glad to hear Alex will be back though! I might have to program my DVR if possible just so I can catch that arc. I hated when Alex left (but I did love her guest appearance).

I'm personally not a fan. I don't mind CSI which I consider to be of the same vain, I don't find there is much to tell the shows apart from one another.

The detectives. The relationships between them. The dynamic of the station. And, well, SVU is sexual or child cases.
The original and CI, I don't see a difference with all the other shows (not that I watch them).

If Mariska and Chris don't return, they really don't have a show. This isn't like the other L&Os, where you can just replace detectives. We watch for these characters. ALEX CABOT! Best ada there is.

Completely agree. Stephanie March is amazing. That's how an ADA should be like.

Wait, I just watched that episode...so Alex is back on a permanent basis now? What happened to Michaela McManus's character? (Did she die or something?)
And in regards to the episode, it rocked!

erm..not yet? *fingers crossed* Kim went back to DC for something. Alex is in, I think 6 eps? Another 4 (or 3) to go. She won't be in the finale. But she'll be around for the rest.
