Live And Let Die
Teaser [Scene: South Bay Social Services. PAIGE MATTHEWS walks into MR. COWAN’s office with a stack of papers in her hand. MR. COWAN looks up from his desk and smiles as PAIGE lays the papers in front of him. He laughs lightly as he picks up the papers and pulls open one of the drawers.][/b] MR. COWAN: I don’t know how you manage to always slide these on my desk at the last second, Paige, but I’m so thankful that you do. (PAIGE places her hands on her hips.)PAIGE: Well, how about rewarding me by promoting me to Social Worker? (MR. COWAN slides the papers into a manilla folder and then slips the folder into his black briefcase.)MR. COWAN: Just between you and me, you’re not that far off. (He winks. PAIGE rolls her eyes.)PAIGE: Okay, well you enjoy yourself with those files. I’m off to lunch. MR. COWAN: Glenn? PAIGE: No, actually, my sister, Piper. She’s picking me up and we’re going out to a new deli she found yesterday. MR. COWAN: Have fun. PAIGE: Ditto. (She shuts his door as she leaves, and moves to her cubical. PAIGE grabs her white jacket that’s draped over the back of her chair, and then heads for the door.)[Cut to the parking lot. PIPER HALLIWELL’s jeep is pulling in. PIPER looks over at the front of the building, just as PAIGE walks out. PIPER waves to her, just as PAIGE screams.]PAIGE: Piper, look out! (A red car comes barreling through the parking lot, heading straight for PIPER’s green jeep. PIPER turns just in time to see the red car slam into the driver’s side of her jeep. The windows shatter and PIPER’s jeep slides several feet to the right from the impact. The airbags explode, the car horns blare, and black smoke begins to billow from the crash.)[Flashback: A sixteen-year-old PAIGE is sitting in the backseat of her adoptive parents’ car. Her arms are crossed and she’s looking out the window with a scowl on her face. PAIGE turns her head sharply, staring at the couple, her adoptive parents, in the front of the car.]PAIGE: (yelling) This is lame! Why can’t you two get it through your heads that I’m too old for this?! (MRS. MATTHEWS looks back at PAIGE from the passenger seat; pain is etched into her features.)MRS. MATTHEWS: Your father got off early tonight just so we could spend some time as a family. Why can’t you just be grateful that you have a father who cares for you that much? PAIGE: I never told him to take the night off! I would be perfectly fine spending the night with Glenn, like we had planned to do three weeks ago! (The car pulls up to a red light. MR. MATTHEWS turns around in his seat. His face is red with anger as he looks at PAIGE.)MR. MATTHEWS: (yelling) Fine! If you hate spending time with us so much, then we can go home and you can spend all the time in the world by yourself, because you’re grounded! (The light turns green and he stomps on the gas.)PAIGE: That’s not fair! (MR. MATTHEWS turns around again, his eyes ablaze.)MR. MATTHEWS: Life isn’t fair, Paige! (A truck swerves into the lane, but MR. MATTHEWS doesn’t see it because he is still looking back at PAIGE. MRS. MATTHEWS screams. The two cars collide in an explosion of glass and metal.)[Cut to the present. PAIGE is standing frozen in fear as smoke rises from PIPER’s jeep. Suddenly, she drops her purse and coat, and starts running towards the wreck. She yanks open the door to find PIPER unconscious, with her head hanging limply at her side. Tears begin to fall from PAIGE’s eyes.]PAIGE: (screaming) Help! Clickable Credits.

{SCENE: The song “My Loss,” written and sung by Caesar, is heard as stock shots of San Francisco are shown while the Guest Credits are rolled.}
Act One
[Scene: Bay General. PIPER is lying in a hospital bed with a white patch on her forehead. LEO WYATT is at her bedside. PRUE and PHOEBE HALLIWELL walk in. PRUE gasps.]PRUE: Piper! Thank god you’re okay. (She moves to PIPER and hugs her. PIPER lets out a little groan and PRUE pulls back.)PHOEBE: We came as soon as we could. (Her eyes drift to PIPER’s stomach.) Are you okay? (PIPER lays her hand on her stomach.)PIPER: We’re fine. It wasn’t anything serious, just a minor concussion. (PRUE lightly touches the patch on PIPER's forehead. PIPER winces.)PRUE: How did this happen? (PIPER shakes her head.)PIPER: It’s really hazy. All I can remember is seeing a flash of red and then I woke up here. (PHOEBE looks at LEO.)PHOEBE: I thought you said that Paige was the one who got her out of the car. (LEO nods.) Did she see the crash? LEO: Yes- PRUE: Where is she? LEO: I don’t think it’s such a good idea to ask her about it right now. PHOEBE: Why not? (LEO and PIPER look at each other. PIPER shakes her head.)PRUE: What do you know that you’re not telling us? LEO: This is pretty personal for Paige. She should tell you in her own time. PHOEBE: Leo, if something’s wrong with Paige, then it affects all of us. (LEO gives PIPER a conflicted look. PIPER sighs and nods.)[Scene: Underworld. THE ORACLE is staring into a floor length mirror. The edge of her shirt is pulled up to reveal a long, red scar. She lightly strokes her index finger over the marred flesh; the gift left by MATTHEW CAPIELLO just a month earlier, when she had kidnapped LITTLE PHOEBE. In the reflection of the mirror, she sees a demon shimmering in. Quickly, she pulls down her shirt and turns around as DEMITRIUS appears.]DEMITRIUS: I got your message. (He sees her crystal ball and moves towards it.) You have news for me? THE ORACLE: Yes. (She walks over to her crystal ball and protectively blocks it from DEMITRIUS’ view.) The Charmed Ones, although fearsome witches, are still mortal women. They suffer from the same fears and weaknesses as any other mortal, (she looks at DEMITRIUS with a devilish look in her eyes) and luckily for us, we just got a break. DEMITRIUS: (impatiently) And that break is? THE ORACLE: Piper. (She strokes her crystal ball.) She’s a recent victim of a car accident, which Paige witnessed. DEMITRIUS: How does that help us? THE ORACLE: The middle sister will be in a weakened position- DEMITRIUS: (confused) From a car accident? Do you take me for one of those stupid lower level demons, Oracle? The middle sister has the power to freeze and blow me up! (THE ORACLE realizes she isn't dealing with the type of demon she thought he was and after she takes a deep breath, she smiles at DEMITRIUS.)THE ORACLE: She will still be vulnerable. The accident will put her on rest and she will not see an attack coming on her. DEMITRIUS: Then won’t that make her sisters want to stay close to her? THE ORACLE: Not when it’s Paige who is suffering. (She grins.) The youngest Charmed One’s parents were killed in a car crash when she was a teenager, and seeing Piper’s accident is forcing her to relive that day. Prue and Phoebe will be focused on Paige’s emotional turmoil, while Piper will be left unattended. DEMITRIUS: What about the whitelighter? He got in my way last time. (THE ORACLE looks into her crystal ball, smiling.)THE ORACLE: He won’t be a problem for too much longer. (An image of PAIGE’s car crash begins to take shape in the crystal ball.)[Scene: Bay General. PIPER's hospital room. PIPER is lying on the bed. PRUE is sitting on the bed next to PIPER while PHOEBE is standing to PIPER's right and LEO is on PIPER's left.]PHOEBE: What? Wait, when did you find that out? LEO: She was acting pretty distant when I got here, and while we were waiting for Piper to wake up, I asked her what was going on. Piper: She waited for me to wake up to make sure I was okay, and then she asked if it was okay if she went home. (She takes LEO's hand.) Leo didn’t tell me until after she left. LEO: She blames herself for their death. (PRUE and PHOEBE share concerned looks. Suddenly, there is a knock on the door and everyone faces it.)PIPER: Come in. (DARRYL MORRIS walks in with a bouquet of tulips. Behind him is his wife, SHEILA, and their two children, six-year-old ALICIA and four-year-old DARRYL JR., DJ. DARRYL places the flowers on the bedside table. PIPER smiles as she sees the MORRIS' and the flowers.)PIPER: Oh, so I need to be in the hospital to get a family visit huh? DARRYL: (smiles weakly) I heard there was an accident and the name Halliwell came up. We just wanted to make sure you were okay. (ALICIA walks over to the bed and PRUE helps her up.)ALICIA: Aunt Piper, I brought you something. (She puts her hand in her sweater pocket and pulls out a Hershey's kiss and a Hershey's hug, and gives them to PIPER. PIPER smiles and gives ALICIA a hug.)DJ: It's from me too! (They laugh as PRUE moves off the bed and DARRYL lifts his son up. PIPER gives DJ a hug too.)PIPER: Thank you guys! I'll have to make a special dinner for you both when I get home. (As they continue to talk, PRUE leans over to PHOEBE.)PRUE: (whispering to PHOEBE) I think we should go check on Paige. (PHOEBE nods, and while PIPER is still talking with DARRYL and his family, PRUE and PHOEBE leave the room.)BREAK

Act Two
[Scene: PAIGE’s loft. PRUE and PHOEBE are standing at the front door. PRUE is knocking. PHOEBE shakes her head.]PHOEBE: We’ve been standing out her for ten minutes knocking. We’re not going to get anywhere like this. PRUE: Well, I can tell you what we’re not going to do. (PHOEBE raises a brow.) Let her sit in there and blame herself. (She places her hand near the door handle and then there’s a click, and the door pops open. They look at each other and walk inside.)PHOEBE: Paige? (She sets her purse on the counter and heads deeper into the loft. PRUE follows.) Paige? Are you home? PRUE: (whispering) Phoebe. (She presses her index finger to her lips, beckoning for PHOEBE to be quiet. Then they hear a soft whimpering coming from a closed door.) That must be her bedroom. (She heads over to the door.)PHOEBE: (whispering) I don’t know if we should be doing this, Prue. PRUE: (whispering) Phoebe, you said yourself that if this affects Paige, if affects all of us. (She frowns.) Our powers are tied to our emotions, Phoebe. Need I remind you of your little episode a couple weeks ago? PHOEBE: (whispering) But this isn’t the same thing. We’re talking about the death of her parents here, Prue. PRUE: I know, which is why I also know that something like this is when you need other people to help you through it. You’re too young to remember, but Mom’s death is still fresh in my mind. (A moment of silence lapses between them, and then PRUE turns to the door. She places her hand on the door handle and, after a deep breath, quickly turns it. The door opens to reveal PAIGE sitting in the corner of her room with her knees pulled to her chest, crying heavily. Dark lines of mascara line PAIGE's pale face and her eyes are red. Dirty tissues and pictures are scattered across the floor around he. PHOEBE covers her mouth with her hand, but PRUE doesn’t seem to be phased. She quickly moves across the room and pushes aside the tissues and pictures, and then seats herself next to PAIGE. PRUE brushes PAIGE’s hair out of her face and wraps her arms around her, pulling her into her arms to let her cry. PRUE’s blue eyes lift to PHOEBE. PHOEBE walks over and hesitantly sits down next to PAIGE. PHOEBE takes one of PAIGE’s hands in her own, and with her other, she begins to rub soft circles on PAIGE’s back.)[Scene: Bay General. A dark haired woman in a white lab coat walks into PIPER’s room. Her nametag reads “Ava Nicolae.” She’s holding a clipboard as she shuts the door. LEO takes PIPER’s hand and they look at her expectantly.]DR. NICOLAE: Everything appears to be in order, Mrs. Halliwell. Your tests have come in, and apart from the concussion we discussed earlier, you and the baby are in perfect health. PIPER: Does that mean I can leave? DR. NICOLAE: If you’d like, I can bring in your clothes while your husband signs you out. But I should warn you that sometimes symptoms can reveal themselves a day or two after a car crash. If you start to feel lightheaded or stiff within the next few days, you should come in immediately. (PIPER nods.)PIPER: I know. (She glances at LEO, remembering the crash as a young girl that left PHOEBE in the hospital for a week.) I’m not new to the side effects of a car crash. DR. NICOLAE: So, you’d like to sign out? (PIPER nods. DR. NICOLAE motions to LEO.) Follow me. (to PIPER) I’ll be back with your clothing in a few minutes. PIPER: Thank you. (She squeezes LEO’s hand before he lets go.)LEO: I’ll be right back. (He kisses her forehead and leaves with DR. NICOLAE.)[Cut to DEMITRIUS. He’s standing just a few feet from the door to PIPER’s hospital room, dressed in a white lab coat and pretending to look down at a clipboard. He looks over his shoulder as LEO walks up to the front desk, and then back at PIPER’s room. Suddenly, THE ORACLE’s reflection appears in the silver clip on his clipboard.]THE ORACLE: Patience, Demitrius. Bide your time until I give you your cue. (DEMITRIUS glares as he sees LEO walk back into PIPER's hospital room. He looks down at his clipboard to see that THE ORACLE’s reflection is no longer there. He looks around and then shimmers out.)[Scene: PAIGE’s loft. PAIGE’s bedroom. PAIGE is still crying as she holds a picture of her and her adoptive parents. PRUE and PHOEBE are still cuddled up on either side of her.]PAIGE: I-I-I w-was argu… (She breaks into another series of sobs. PRUE squints her eyes and telekinetically brings the tissue box on the nightstand to her. She pulls a couple tissues from the box and lifts PAIGE's chin with her other hand. Gently, she wipes PAIGE's wet eyes and face.)PRUE: Shh. (PAIGE quiets, but she’s still whimpering.) Take a deep breath. (PAIGE breaths in.) Hold it…now let it out slowly through your mouth. (PAIGE breaths out and PRUE dabs her eyes again.) Now start over. Take your time as your talking. (PAIGE sniffles.)PAIGE: I-It was family night. (She grabs another tissue and wipes her eyes.) We d-did it every week. My dad would get off early, just to spend it with my mom and me. (She stares down at picture and traces the outlines of MR. and MRS. MATTHEWS.)PHOEBE: (softly) It sounds like you had great parents. (PAIGE nods.)PAIGE: But that day, I didn’t want to spend family night with them. I wanted to spend it with Glenn. We’d made plans to go to some party. They told me I couldn’t and I just got so angry. I told them that family night was lame, and that I was too old for it. PHOEBE: Oh Paige… PAIGE: I knew I was hurting them, but I didn’t care. I never thought… (She closes her eyes.) I told them that it wasn’t fair, and the last thing my dad said to me was that life isn’t fair. (pause) He was too busy yelling at me to see the truck that swerved into our lane. (She starts to cry again.) The next thing I knew, I was on the side of the road and their car was on fire. (PRUE stares out at the wall, remembering the last thing she said to her mother and how it affected her until just three years ago.)PRUE: Paige, you can’t blame yourself for that. You couldn’t have known- PAIGE: You don’t understand! It was my fault! If I hadn’t been arguing with them, if I hadn’t been so selfish, then they would still be alive right now! (PRUE and PHOEBE look at each other.)PHOEBE: You don’t know that, Paige. If there’s one thing I’ve learned since becoming a witch, it’s that everything happens for a reason. PAIGE: So, what’s the reason for taking the lives of two innocent people, who never did anything but good in their lives and those of everyone around them? (PHOEBE just stares. PAIGE picks up another picture, with fresh tears in her eyes. PRUE stands up. She motions to PHOEBE.)PRUE: (to PAIGE) I’m gonna go get you something to drink. (pause) Do you want anything else? (PAIGE shakes her head. PRUE and PHOEBE walk out of the bedroom, and PRUE lightly shuts the door.)PHOEBE: What do we do, Prue? How do we help her with something that happened in the past? PRUE: We send her back to it. BREAK

Act Three
[Scene: Manor. PIPER’s bedroom. LEO and PIPER orb in. PIPER touches her head, looking slightly dizzy. LEO places his hand over PIPER’s.]LEO: Are you okay? PIPER: It’s just the orbing. (She smiles.) I’m fine. (She looks at the bed.) I think I just need to lay down. (LEO helps her over to the bed and fluffs her pillow for her. As he starts to sit down, he looks up at the ceiling.) Are They calling you? LEO: No, it’s Prue. PIPER: Prue? (Her brow creases.) Is she in trouble? (LEO shakes his head.)LEO: I don’t know if I should leave you. PIPER: Leo, I’m fine. Really. (She waves her hand.) Go see what Prue needs. I’ll be here when you get back. (LEO shakes his head.)LEO: No, I don’t like that. I don’t want to leave you alone. You’re vulnerable right now. PIPER: Then I’ll go with you. LEO: But you said- PIPER: I know what I said, Leo. But if Prue needs you, then it’s probably important. (She holds out her hand. Sighing, LEO takes her hand and they orb out again.)[Scene: PAIGE's loft. PAIGE’s bedroom. PRUE is standing over PAIGE as she drinks a glass of ice water. Out of the corner of her eye, she sees a blue glow from the crack in the doorway. She looks down at PAIGE.]PRUE: Do you have a bathroom? PAIGE: Uh, yeah. It’s right across the living room. You should see it as soon as you walk out of the bedroom. PRUE: Thanks. (She glances at PHOEBE, but PAIGE doesn’t notice. PRUE walks out of the bedroom and shuts the door. She sees PIPER sitting on a chair, holding her head. LEO is standing next to her.) PIPER, are you okay? PIPER: Yes, for the last time! I’m fine. (She motions her hand dismissively.) Tell Leo what you wanted. (PRUE eyes her sister suspiciously, and then looks at LEO.)PRUE: I have an idea, about how to help Paige see that her parents’ death was not her fault. (PIPER looks up.) But it involves The Elders’ help. LEO: Prue- PRUE: Hear me out! (She places her hands on her hips.) I know They can send people back in time. They’ve done it for us twice, if you haven’t forgotten. Once to the future, and once to save Melinda Warren. LEO: But those were special circumstances- PRUE: So is this! Paige needs to know that what happened that day was because of destiny, not because of her. (pause) Leo, she needs this. PIPER: Prue’s right. (She gives him a pleading look.) Could you at least ask? (LEO sighs.)LEO: I can ask, but I can’t guarantee anything. (He orbs out. PRUE walks over to PIPER and sits down on the arm of the chair. She wraps her arm around PIPER’s shoulders and pulls her close.)[Time lapse. The Charmed Ones are gathered on PAIGE’s bed, with PAIGE in the middle. She looks confused.]PAIGE: You want to send me back in time? (PRUE nods.) You can really do that? PIPER: Only for very special reasons, but I think we can all agree that this is one of them. PAIGE: How do we do that? PHOEBE: We don’t. They do. (She looks at the ceiling.) And if They do, it would only be long enough for you to see what happened that day. (pause) And you wouldn’t be able to change the outcome. (LEO orbs in. The sisters turn their eyes expectantly to him.)PRUE: Well, what did They say? LEO: They said that They’d do it. (PRUE opens her mouth.) But, only on one condition. PAIGE: What? LEO: (to PAIGE) I have to go with you. (He turns to PIPER, who nods, approvingly.)(Silence.)PAIGE: Okay. (She looks down at the picture in her hand and then back at her brother-in-law.) How do we do it? (LEO walks over to the bed and holds out his hand.)LEO: Just take my hand. (PAIGE looks hesitantly at her sisters, who all nod. PAIGE takes a deep breath and then places her hand in LEO’s. They vanish in a swirl of twinkling white lights.)PHOEBE: I wonder how long they’ll be gone. PRUE: I don’t care, just so long as it works. (The silence is interrupted by PRUE’s ringing cell phone. She reaches into her purse and pulls it out and picks up. After a moment, she speaks into the phone.)PRUE: Sorry, Matt. I got caught up in something, but I'm on my way now. (pause) Okay, great. See ya soon. (PRUE hangs up and sighs.)PIPER: What? PRUE: I completely forgot! I was supposed to meet Matt down at Pier 39 to do a shoot at the opening of this new seafood restaurant. (She heads for the door.)PHOEBE: But you still need to drop me off for my job interview at the psychiatrist’s office! PRUE: But we can’t leave Piper alone. (PIPER shakes her hand.)PIPER: Why is everyone so worried about me? Of course you can leave me alone. I’m a big girl. I can take care of myself. (She marches past PRUE.) Just drop me off at the Manor on the way to Phoebe’s job interview, and then go meet Matt at the restaurant opening. PHOEBE: But- Piper: But nothing. (She opens the door.) Besides, maybe a little peace and quiet at home will do me good, don’t you think? (She cocks her head to the side as her sisters exchange looks. They both sigh, giving in. PIPER smiles.) I thought you’d see things my way. (She heads out the door, and her sisters follow her.)BREAK

Act Four
[Scene: May 20, 1994. The Matthews’ house. PAIGE’s bedroom. PAIGE wakes up and screams as she sees her reflection in the mirror. She’s in her sixteen-year-old body, complete with dark bangs and braces. LEO, who’s transparent, spins around as PAIGE screams.]LEO: What’s the matter? PAIGE: I thought I was just coming back to see my past, not be it! (She hops off the bed and stares in horror at the mirror, as she runs her fingers through her long dark hair. She looks at LEO, realizing he’s transparent.) Hey, how come you get to be all ghosty? LEO: Because I’m only your guide. (They hear footsteps.) You’re the only one who can see and hear me. (There’s a knock at the door. PAIGE looks at LEO.) Answer it. PAIGE: Who is it? (The door opens up and MR. MATTHEWS walks in.)MR. MATTHEWS: Paige? (He looks around.) Your mother and I thought we heard you scream. Are you alright? (PAIGE grins.)PAIGE: I’m fine! (She throws her arms around him. He looks a little confused at first, but then he smiles and hugs her back.) How about you? MR. MATTHEWS: I’m…okay. (He sees the curtains blowing from the window and frowns. MR. MATTHEWS pulls away from PAIGE and walks over to the window, where he pulls back the curtains to find cigarettes that are still lite. He waves his arm to disperse the smoke.) No wonder you’re putting on this charade. (He shakes his head angrily.) You know, I don’t know how much more we can take from you, Paige. (He leaves and PAIGE looks hurt.)[Cut to the kitchen. MRS. MATTHEWS is cooking breakfast when MR. MATTHEWS walks in. He sits down at the table, looking quite angry.]MR. MATTHEWS: Did you know she’s smoking again? MRS. MATTHEWS: She told me that she quit. MR. MATTHEWS: Looks like she did that about as well as she quit drinking. (He shakes his head disappointedly.) She even had the nerve to give me this big hug when I went in there. (MRS. MATTHEWS turns the stove off and puts eggs and toast on the table. She goes to the refrigerator and opens it.)MRS. MATTHEWS: The school called again yesterday. She’s cutting class again, too. (She pulls out the orange juice and shuts the door, then grabs two cups, and begins pouring the juice.) MR. MATTHEWS: If she keeps going this route, she won’t get into college. MRS. MATTHEWS: Haven’t you heard? She’s not going. (She puts the cups on the table.)[Cut to outside the kitchen. PAIGE is pressed to the wall, listening to her adoptive parents’ conversation. Tears are in her eyes. She starts to head into the kitchen and LEO shakes his head.]LEO: Paige! You can’t change the past, remember? You have to do the same things you did that day! PAIGE: I know, Leo, I know. (She takes a deep breath and walks into the kitchen.) Mom? (She hugs her and MRS. MATTHEWS looks surprised.)MR. MATTHEWS: See what I mean? MRS. MATTHEWS: Mom, huh? I thought that was reserved for your real mother? Last I checked, we (she motions to MR. MATTHEWS) were just Madeline and Holden. PAIGE: I-I was just angry. You are my real mom. (pause) I have something to tell you. (HOLDEN and MADELINE stare at her.) I’m turning my life around. HOLDEN: If you think you’re getting the car, you’ve got another thing coming. PAIGE: I mean it! I’ve changed! (MADELINE sits down at the table.) I know you guys don’t believe me but- (A car horn honks. HOLDEN grabs the newspaper.)HOLDEN: Your ride’s here. PAIGE: Mom- LEO: Paige, you have to follow the events of that day. No exceptions. (LEO and PAIGE turn to leave.)MADELINE: Oh, and Paige? (PAIGE turns around with a hopeful look.) Don’t forget, tonight’s family night. We’re all going to have a nice, long talk about your recent behavior, so don’t think you’re getting out of it. [Scene: Present day. Pier 39. PRUE comes running up the street, looking out of breath. MATT sees her and waves her over. PRUE shakes her head as she walks up to a large, brand new restaurant with a large ribbon over the front doors.]PRUE: I’m so sorry! Piper was in a car accident this morning, and this was just the last thing on my mind. MATT: It’s fine. There were some electrical problems anyway, so they are actually a little off schedule with the shoot. PRUE: Well, at least something is going on my favor today. (She looks at her watch.) Do you know how much longer? MATT: They said about three-thirty, and it’s only three now. PRUE: So, what do you want to do? MATT: Coffee? (PRUE grins.)PRUE: You know me too well. MATT: (smirking) I’d like to think so. (They start walking down the pier.)[Scene: Psychologist’s office. Waiting room. PHOEBE’s sitting down, reading a magazine article on the human brain. A sign on the door across the room reads “Dr. Laura Brenton.” The door opens to reveal a tall, blonde woman with small glasses, LAURA BRENTON.]DR. BRENTON: Phoebe Halliwell? (PHOEBE looks up and raises her hand.)PHOEBE: Oh! That’s me! (Phoebe sets down the magazine and hops up. She moves across the room and follows DR. BRENTON into the office. She takes a seat across the desk and places her purse in her lap. DR. BRENTON spins around in her chair and then looks PHOEBE right in the eyes.)DR. BRENTON: I’m just going to be frank with you, Ms. Halliwell. I’m not excited about hiring a new assistant, and the only reason I am is because the woman I’ve had since I started this business is retiring, and rightfully so. Honestly, I don’t believe you or anyone else can fill her shoes, but I can’t run this place without someone. PHOEBE: So, what made you decide to call me in? DR. BRENTON: I’ve declined everyone else who’s applied... (She turns to her computer.) And they’ve all been far more qualified than you. (PHOEBE's mouth drops open.) Ms. Halliwell, why do you want this job? PHOEBE: Well, I really have a knack for helping people- DR. BRENTON: Let me stop you right now. This job requires a lot of insight, (she pulls down her glasses to the bridge of her nose and looks PHOEBE up and down) which I don’t see in you. So again I ask, why do you want this job? PHOEBE: If you don’t mind, I’d like to be frank with you too. (PHOEBE is on the edge of her seat.) I want this job because I know I can help people, whether you can see it or not. I may not be as qualified as those other so-called experienced people, but I have more insight than anyone else who’s applied for this job. For three years now, I've been helping people in more ways that anyone will every know. I don't need a degree to tell me if I'm qualified or not, I have "thank yous" that say enough. You have to want to help people, and I've never felt more passionate about anything. You'll probably find more "qualified" people, but I doubt you'll find anyone as passionate as I am. (She stares at the doctor and DR. BRENTON stares at PHOEBE. DR. BRENTON smiles.)DR. BRENTON: Ms. Halliwell, (she extends her right arm to PHOEBE) you’re hired. BREAK

Act Five
[Scene: May 20, 1994. King High School. PAIGE opens her locker. LEO is standing beside her.]PAIGE: I cannot believe I actually remember the combination! (She starts to rifle through the books, candy wrappers, and various other objects that are stuffed inside.) I used to live outta this thing. (A pager goes off.) Hey, my pager! (She pulls out her pager.)LEO: You had a pager in high school? PAIGE: It is the nineties, Leo. (She looks down at the pager.) It’s Glenn. He wants me to meet him behind the bleachers before class. (Her eyes widen.) The party! I almost forgot about it. He probably wants to know if I’m still coming. (She shakes her head and shoves the pager back in her locker.) No way. LEO: Paige! You have to do exactly what you did that day! You can’t change things. PAIGE: But- LEO: Did you meet him? (PAIGE nods.) Then you have to meet him today. (PAIGE shuts her locker.) Which way to the bleachers? PAIGE: This way. (They hurry down the crowded hallway, out a pair of double doors, and then come to the football field. PAIGE cups her hand over her forehead, blocking the glare of the sun. She spots a teenage boy waving to her in the distance.) There he is. (LEO laughs as they near him.) What’s so funny? LEO: That’s the same Glenn that came over to dinner on Thanksgiving? PAIGE: He was a kid, okay! (She smiles.) Besides, I kinda liked his green hair. (PAIGE notices a girl next to GLENN BELLAND and she gasps.)LEO: What’s wrong? PAIGE: Michelle. LEO: Michelle? (PAIGE points to the girl behind GLENN.)PAIGE: That’s Michelle Miglis. (She gawks.) I haven’t seen her since…since the summer before my senior year. (pause) Her, Glenn, and I were all best friends in high school and then just before senior year, she died. LEO: What happened? PAIGE: The papers said it was an overdose. LEO: And you don’t believe that? PAIGE: I’ve known Michelle since sixth grade. She’s been a huge drinker since middle school, but she was never big on drugs. (She walks up to MICHELLE and GLENN. GLENN is smoking a cigarette, while MICHELLE is nursing a beer bottle.)MICHELLE: Hey Paige, you know your Peppermint Schnapps theory? (She places her hand on her hip.) Bogus! My mom knew right away that it wasn’t a breath mint. Now I’m grounded for two weeks. (MICHELLE rolls her eyes as she takes another swig from the beer bottle. GLENN drops his cigarette on the ground and puts it out with the toe of his shoe. He wraps his arm around PAIGE’s waist.)GLENN: So, Shelly’s not sure if she’ll be able to make it to the party or not. (He winks at her.) But I’m still up for it. How about you? (PAIGE looks at LEO and GLENN looks confused.) I hope you’re not having second thoughts, because I worked my ass off to get us a brand new bottle of Vodka for tonight. LEO: The same path, Paige. PAIGE: (hesitantly) Yeah, sure. (She wiggles out of his grasp.) Whatever. (She starts walking back towards the school.)GLENN: Where’re you goin’? PAIGE: To class. (She glares.) It’s where you should be going too. (MICHELLE looks at GLENN.)MICHELLE: What’s her problem? (GLENN shrugs.)[Time lapse. PAIGE is sitting in the back row of the class, with her head in her hands. She looks bored to tears, as does the rest of the class. LEO is standing behind PAIGE, with his arms folded. At the front of the class, the teacher is leaning against his desk, reading from a history book. A golden nameplate on the desk reads, "Jared Martin."]PAIGE: (whispering) I need to get out of here. (The door opens and a young woman, the office aide, steps inside. The teacher, MR. MARTIN, looks up as the young woman walks over to his desk and hands him a yellow slip of paper. She whispers something to MR. MARTIN, and then leaves. MR. MARTIN looks down at the slip of paper and then towards the back of the room, at PAIGE.)MR. MARTIN: Ms. Matthews, please make your way down to the office. (He holds out the yellow pass.)PAIGE: (smirking) Saved by the Belland. LEO: What's going on? (PAIGE rolls her eyes as she stands up. Snickers spread across the classroom as everyone stares at her. PAIGE walks up to MR. MARTIN and takes the office pass.)PAIGE: (whispering) It's Glenn. (She opens the door and walks out.) He used to bribe the office aide to get me out of class, because she was the only one with access to the hall passes. We'd meet (she looks down the hallway to see Glenn waving to her) at the bathroom and make out. (Glenn jogs over to her with a huge grin on his face.)GLENN: You look like you're in a better mood now. (He slips his arm around her waist and leans in to kiss her. Paige pulls away.)PAIGE: Glenn- GLENN: Aw, c'mon, Paige. What's the matter? (PAIGE looks back at LEO, who's turned away.) Paige? (He runs his hands through her long, dark hair.) What's wrong? PAIGE: It's...complicated. (She shakes her head.) I can't really tell you. GLENN: We tell each other everything. PAIGE: This is different. GLENN: Did you have another fight with your parents? PAIGE: You could say that. (GLENN laces his fingers with PAIGE's and leads her over to the wall, near the drinking fountain.)GLENN: It's nothing that our little party won't fix, is it? (He digs into his pocket and pulls out a pack of cigarettes.) Or do you want a smoke to calm your nerves? (PAIGE puts her hand over the pack of cigarettes, and pushes GLENN's hand back towards his pocket.)PAIGE: It's not like that. It's just- WOMAN's VOICE: Ms. Matthews, Mr. Belland. (PAIGE and GLENN turn around to see a very unpleased woman with her arms folded, tapping her foot. GLENN gulps and flashes his best grin.)GLENN: Principal Harris...nice to see you. (PRINCIPAL HARRIS motions her arm.)PRINCIPAL HARRIS: My office. Now. [Scene: Present day. Manor. Hallway. The bathroom door opens, allowing a burst of steam to flow out. PIPER walks out in a pink robe with her head wrapped in a white towel. Small drops of water are still visible on her face. She starts walking towards her bedroom.]
[Scene: Bus stop. PHOEBE is sitting on a bench next to an elderly woman. A pregnant woman who’s holding the hand of a bouncy little boy who’s no more than five walks up. She leans against the wall of the building, looking very tired. PHOEBE smiles and stands up.]PHOEBE: (to the pregnant woman) Here, take my seat. PREGNANT WOMAN: Are you sure? PHOEBE: Of course! PREGNANT WOMAN: Thank you so much. (She brushes past PHOEBE as she sits down. PHOEBE gasps.)[Premonition: DEMITRIUS is poised behind Piper's bedroom door. His hand is glowing. PIPER walks in and starts to take the towel off of her head, when she sees DEMITRIUS’ reflection in her mirror. She screams as she raises her hand, but he’s too fast. DEMITRIUS cups his hand around PIPER’s mouth and then plunges his glowing hand into her stomach. PIPER gasps as he pulls away, letting her drop to the floor. PIPER touches her stomach, revealing gooey blood covering her hands.]PIPER: (weakly) N-no! (She raises her bloody hands and DEMITRIUS glows before exploding into bright spray of lights; vanquished. PIPER's hands drop to the gaping, bloody hole in her stomach.) L-Leo…help us. (Her eyes roll back in her head.)[Cut to the present. The PREGNANT WOMAN looks alarmed.]PREGNANT WOMAN: (to PHOEBE) Are you okay? PHOEBE: Piper! BREAK

Act Six
[Scene: Present day. Manor. PIPER's bedroom. DEMITRIUS is poised behind the door. The phone on the dresser begins to ring. Footsteps are heard in the hallway. They get louder as the phone continues to ring.]PIPER's VOICE: I'm coming, I'm coming! (The answering machine picks up.)PHOEBE's VOICE: Piper, it's Phoebe- (DEMITRIUS waves his hand. A wave of green light emanates from his fingertips and absorbs into the phone. The message machine cuts off as PIPER walks into the bedroom. PIPER starts to walk over to the phone when DEMITRIUS grabs her from behind.)[Scene: May 20, 1994. King High School. PAIGE is running after her adoptive parents as they walk down the steps in front of the school. LEO is following close behind, with a worried look on his face.]LEO: You’ve changed enough already, Paige! There are consequences. PAIGE: Screw consequences, Leo. I’m not going to let my parents die again! (LEO tries to grab her, but his arm goes through her.)LEO: They aren’t dying again, Paige, this has already happened! This is their destiny. (PAIGE ignores LEO and runs ahead of her parents.)PAIGE: You have to believe that I don’t turn out as bad you think I will! (HOLDEN and MADELINE stop. Paige looks at her adoptive mother.) I go to college, like you’ve always wanted. Berkley, in fact, just like you. I write a powerful essay on the death of…well, just a powerful essay. (to HOLDEN) And I quit smoking and drinking, I swear! (Tears appear in her eyes.) Please, just believe me! HOLDEN: We’ve already seen this act, Paige. PAIGE: I’m not who you think I am! MADELINE: How do you know what we think? PAIGE: Because, I can see the disappointment in your eyes. (She wipes her eyes with her sleeve.) And I know I deserve it, but this isn’t how I’m always going to be. You didn’t raise a bad daughter. MADELINE: We’ve always known we didn’t raise a bad daughter, Paige. You’re good, and we just want to help you see that too. PAIGE: I think you already have. (MADELINE smiles. They go to the car.) Hey, I was wondering if we might be able to stay in tonight? Instead of going to the restaurant? HOLDEN: We’re still having that talk. PAIGE: I know. I just meant at home, instead. MADELINE: Sure. (She gets into the passenger’s seat as PAIGE climbs into the backseat. HOLDEN starts the car and pulls onto the road. LEO, who’s sitting on the seat next to PAIGE, is shaking his head.)LEO: You can’t change anything. PAIGE: (smugly) I already have. HOLDEN: What was that? PAIGE: Oh, uh, I was just asking if we could have some of Mom’s home cooking tonight. I miss it. MADELINE: (laughing) You have it every night. PAIGE: Well, it’s my favorite. (She smiles as she looks out the window. Her eyes widen as she sees a huge truck heading straight for the driver's side from the cross street, instead of swerving into the lane like it had in before PAIGE changed the timeline. PAIGE screams.) Look out! (The truck slams into the driver’s side of the car. Glass shatters inward as PAIGE orbs out. The car rolls over and PAIGE orbs in on the side of the road. She looks up to see her adoptive parents’ car explode in flames. Tears begin to flood PAIGE’s cheeks as she starts to sob.)[Scene: Present day. Pier 39. The Seven Seas. A long line has gathered outside the restaurant. MATT snaps several pictures, and then the owner moves to the front of the building with a pair of massive scissors. PRUE is holding up her camera, ready to take a photo of the owner.]Prue: Move a little to the right. (The owner moves a little and PRUE nods. The owner cuts the red bow that’s blocking the doors and it falls. PRUE snaps two shots, one as she’s cutting and one after its cut. Then she and Matt begin to take pictures as the customers make their way inside. The owner walks over to PRUE and MATT and holds out her hand, shaking each of their hands.)RESTAURANT OWNER: I can’t thank you enough. PRUE: No problem. (She packs her camera into her bag and slings it over her shoulder.) The article should appear in 415 sometime next week, so definitely keep an eye out. RESTAURANT OWNER: I will, thank you. (She starts to turn away, then turns back.) Oh, and before I forget! (She pulls two VIP tickets out of her pocket and hands one to both PRUE and MATT.) I hope you like seafood. (MATT winks at PRUE.)MATT: Hmm. I guess we’ll have to stop by sometime soon. PRUE: Guess so. (She grins as the owner makes her way back into The Seven Seas, greeting customers along the way. MATT looks back at the line.)MATT: So what do you to putting these comp tickets to use? PRUE: I say- (Her phone starts to ring. She sighs and holds up her index finger.) Excuse me. (She flips open her phone and walks a few feet away.) Hello? PHOEBE’s VOICE: (frantic) Prue, it’s Phoebe. I just had a premonition. The demon that attacked at the Halloween party…he’s at the Manor and he’s going to attack Piper! PRUE: (into the phone) What?! PHOEBE’s VOICE: You have to hurry! Leo can’t get to her if he’s in the past! You’re her only hope! PRUE: I’m on my way. (She hangs up and turns around to find MATT staring at her.) I’m sorry, but I have to go. It’s my sister, she’s in trouble. (She shoves her photography bag at him.) Take this to the magazine. (She turns and starts running the opposite direction, back to her car.)[Scene: May 20, 1994. PAIGE is on her knees, sobbing as she watches the car burn. LEO is watching PAIGE with a sorrowful expression.]PAIGE: (screaming) Why did you bring me back here?! LEO: To show you that this was not your fault. It was destiny, Paige. Everything happens for a reason. You parents were meant to die today, but you were meant to live. (He watches as a fire truck pulls up, followed by police.) You orbed out of the car, Paige. PAIGE: I thought I didn’t have my powers back then. LEO: Patty never bound your powers. You’ve always had them. You just didn’t know how to use them, or had a reason to use them, until destiny brought you to your sisters. Magic has always been inside of you, Paige. You were meant to do great things with it, which is why you survived the crash. (pause) You need to forgive yourself. [Scene: Present day. Manor. PIPER's bedroom. A red flare appears, transforming into ASTRAL PRUE. DEMITRIUS lets PIPER drop to the ground. PIPER sees ASTRAL PRUE.]ASTRAL PRUE: Piper! (DEMITRIUS whirls around to see meet ASTRAL PRUE's fist. DEMITRIUS sails backwards into PIPER's dresser, which collapses under his weight. As ASTRAL PRUE advances on him, he shimmers out. ASTRAL PRUE quickly drops to PIPER's side. PIPER touches her stomach, revealing gooey blood covering her hands.)PIPER: (weakly) Prue... ASTRAL PRUE: Shh… (She strokes PIPER’s face.) I’m here, honey. You’re going to be fine. (Tears are dripping down her face. She places her hand over PIPER’s bloody wound.) The ambulance is on their way. [Cut to the attic. PAIGE and LEO appear in a swirl of twinkling white lights. PAIGE turns to LEO.]PAIGE: I want to thank you. LEO: For what? PAIGE: For showing me that my parents' deaths wasn't my fault. (PAIGE hugs LEO. LEO gasps. PAIGE pulls away and LEO curls over and grabs his stomach.)PAIGE: What’s wrong? LEO: Piper! (He orbs out. PAIGE runs out of the attic.)[Cut back to PIPER’s bedroom. LEO orbs in and places his hands over PIPER’s stomach. He starts to cry seeing the position she is in with all the blood.]LEO: (to PIPER) I can’t lose you! (Using all her strength, PIPER reaches up and touches LEO’s face with her bloody hand, leaving a streak of blood on his cheek. A golden glow leaks from LEO’s hands, slowly closing up the wound on PIPER’s stomach. PAIGE runs in and gasps as she sees PIPER’s condition in ASTRAL PRUE’s lap. They hear the front door slam.)PHOEBE’s VOICE: Piper! PAIGE: Phoebe! (She runs out of the room. ASTRAL PRUE laces her fingers with PIPER’s, squeezing her hand tightly. PAIGE runs back in with PHOEBE. PIPER’s wound heals, but LEO’s still crying.)PIPER: (to LEO) The baby? (PIPER touches her stomach with both blood covered hands, leaving a bloody stain on her healed bathrobe. With tears rolling down his face, LEO shakes his head. PIPER’s face contorts and she falls into LEO’s arms, also sobbing.)
