Okay I fell behind lol, but I got done reading Prism Break, and it was really good. I like Paige's new power, it is really cool, and Matt is back, I can't wait to see how that turns out.

Piper's freezing power seems to be advancing. Like the one when she and Prue in 2009. She froze the entire scene, everyone and everything in her path. It's about time now. Thank god.

OMG. Piper's baby did all the work?? Sigh... I thought Piper's powers came back. Oh well, at least her baby got her mum's powers. Thanks god.
Another compliment from me. Way the go!

Another great epi!!! I loved it! I was so scared that Paige would have died. But she's okay and that's great! Oh and the vision the queen had at the end of the epi, that is so freaky! I can't believe that all of San Francisco is destroyed! And during the time that Piper has her baby. I wonder who the shawowed figure is. It can't be Prue, or Piper. and I'm not sure if it can be Paige or Phoebe. The queen's vision did say that destruction will come when one of the Charmed One's become evil. So it has to be Paige or Phoebe, however, the figure threw out his/her arm. So maybe it is Prue??? Well, We'll have to wait and see!!! Great job and can't wait for next sunday's epi!!

Another great episode! I'm so glad Paige is ok, and it looks like Piper's baby is powerful (again). I can't help but wonder if she'll have a boy like in the real Charmed, or will she have Melinda....

Here we go again...
Due to a pile of workload and other personal problems i was unable to be here during the premiere and first episodes of this 5th Season. I would like to apologize to the writers of C:RR for this gross negligence of mine. Good effort must be praised. I wonder what should i do for great efforts? Well, maybe it will come to me while i write this (looong) review...
This will be more like a "note" to the writers, to be exact, beginning with a question: Did you ever wonder why so many people went to see the Episode 3 of Star Wars? Could it because of the special effects? Not only; other movies had special effects, but they flunked at the Box Office. Surely it wasn't the plot. Everybody knew what would happen to the protagonists at least, right? Yes, but it was the HOW, not the outcome itself, that drew the fans. How exactly was it going to unfold? That is the question, as our dear friend Hamlet would put it. But lets hold that for later, shall we?
C:RR has everything: Exellent continuity, the characters "nailed" to perfection (portayed as they should be), emotion, drama, very well planed scenes and secondary plots, even the right amount of jest. And therein lies the problem: All that, to what end? What is the plot? Where does it lead? Is it realistic or not? Is it plausible or not? The purpose of this post is not to suggest. You, the writers, have already planned this season out (and that's the correct thing to do). It is to react. To judge. So, let's be "judgemental". Let's see where your plot goes, shall we?
First thing one finds out is that this plot is very mysterious. Unlike Seasons 1-3, mystery plays a big role in "Reset Reality's" Season 4. Even bigger in Season 5. Why? Because with the "Paige" issue resolved (almost) in Season 4, mystery ends up taking more and more of the Series' time. That course is correct; interest must be kept; new subplots must be introduced properly. At the end of Season 4 we even find out about the "upper" levels of magic; we find out about the Founders and that their agenda which now (episodes 5.04 and 5.05) seems to be quite different from the one the Elders have (To sum it up,in one example, the Elders seem to say: "Oops, sorry we forgot to tell you about Paige's power, so we almost got you killed, bad luck, ha?"; that does not seem to be the purpose of the Founders. I never saw that one coming, though). These "hot potatoes" (the nature of the Charmed universe, the divisions of the Powers that Be) where never even touched by Kern. The series now seems to travel in uncharted territories, so more questions are added to the mysterious, even quasi-nefarious plot that semms to be emergeing from the cliffhangers of Season 4.
"And that brings us to the real reason why we are here. We are not here because we are free. We are here because we are NOT free. There's no denying purpose, or reason. For as we all know, without purpose we would not exist." (Agent Smith, The Matrix Reloaded) We, the "viewers" are here to guess your mystery, to unravel your plot. It's what we are dying to do. We are fans, so we MUST try to decipher your plot. You, the writers, on the other, must keep this plot hidden to keep the element of surpise. To keep us "hooked". For without the "mystery" plot, C:RR would not exist. Right? Wrong!
The point of all this is NOT to merely hide the plot. That will get you half way. That is why, consciously or not, you writers have followed the course (suggested or implemented, it matters not in the long run) that Xenith gave us in 5.04 and 5.05. The WHAT is revealed but the HOW and the WHY (above all, the why!) is still hidden. Good work indeed!!
I have to admit, you did twice as good as i had expected. In 5.01 you start slow; the Cole subplot is not followed to its logical conclusion (Cole returning to the "Dark" side, to extract vengence for the -supposed- death of Phoebe); Phoebe doesn't question the Elders' motives; neither does Prue or her sisters. That makes no sence logically. Questions are raised, but not answered by this starting episode. The pleasant things are the introduction of Drake (mind if i offer a suggestion? Drake and Paige "fit" very well together, so give it some thought; besides whom are you going to find that can really drive Paige nuts? She's funny when she's half-angry!); also the humanization of Cole's character. The readers can now empathize with Cole, excuse (not justify, but understand) how he ended up to be the hitman we see in the beginning of S3.
"I’m saying that even prophets don’t always have the facts up front" (Leo Wyatt, Prism break) Unfortunately, many times they do. Piper's frustration and the Elders' betrayal were easy to predict. However Glenn's trip to Athens and taking good pics with all that smog, i hadn't guessed(HA). Tip: Most times that's very hard, don't listen to the tourguides. Liked the referance, though. But, seriously now, the queen's moves where very predictable, very realistic: Trying to establish her throne with the "feudal" lords of the Evil "Kingdom" and her attempt to cement that throne by killing the Charmed, the champions of Good. In the End she would grasp even at straws (or at "Shadowy figures") to avoid her dethronement or worse, her predesesors fate. Hasn't she learned that the first rule when you govern is "don't trust anyone, including yourself?" That will most likely be the motto she'll get on her grave, if she has one. It was, again, the how, how we will get there, that intrigues.
And what about Matt? I came to like that character during S4, but guys, i think the time has come for you to spill some of his secrets. For two reasons. One, i want to see them revealed (fairly predictable, ha!). Two, because you can't keep avoiding the issue anymore; what is Matt? some sort of fugitive from the Elder's justice? Simply someone with a dark past? Someone in disguise? Is he Andy reincarnated? Those are simply the freakiest things i have thought. And how does his character tie with this Season's prophecy, this "cause celebre" prophecy, which seems to be the cause of all this mystery? Matt is your ultimate wild card. Play it well and, if you don't mind, play it quickly. And if you have no pity for us readers, pity Prue; she's going to feel like cr... when she finds out how wrong she was about Matt's motives.
And now for Episodes 5.04 and 5.05. From the premiere of S5 i had the feeling that what i had originally guessed, that the infamous prophecy was about Phoebe was going to be wrong. These episodes merely confirmed it. But i never saw that it was going to be about... well you know who. Seriously i'm dying to see how events that will lead to the "Warren witch turning to the side of Evil", taking into account her character. Liked the reintroduction of Bane; but my sympathies for Mr. Victor Bennet continue to be low. At least he seems interested in changing his ways... i think. Phoebe and Cole, at least, seem out of danger... for now. Let me sum this up: I was 50% right, about the plot. Usually its much higher (not surprising, considering the "lameness" of most movie and TV script writers today, in all countries). You keep on surpising me (and i hope the others as well) more and more.
PS. I liked the role reversal in 5.04 and 5.05. Prue the unreasonable and Phoebe the voice of reason! Very nicely put together, very nicely justified.Keep up your very good work. Exellence is not very far. But i think that may be your destiny...

XRS! I LOVE YOU! What a beautiful review. You just brightened up my week! THANK YOU.
What do I want to comment on right now? Um..I'll just go with Matt. We know where we're going with him and what we're doing with him. Things will be revealed in time, but to those of pissy about him, oh well. Deal with him. We (the writers) love him way too much. But things will be revealed in time.
As for your comment about CRR being more mysterious? Haven't you ever wondered what the show would be like if Prue hadn't died? (Well, okay, yes..that's why you read CRR.) Well, most people believe that the show would have become darker (while the real Charmed became lighter). So, that's basically what we're doing. It's a darker show than the original, but we're very glad the fans still see this as CHARMED.
Okay, I'm gonna go and party now from your review and shut up so I don't say anything I shouldn't say.

Thank you xrs for such a fantastic, detailed and beautiful review. The team and I have been waiting for your review for a while because we just love reading them and the way you use your time to really tell us stuff we need to hear. We need to hear what we are doing right and wrong and not just "Oo I loved the new episode!" We really appreciate and hopefully it's the first of many this season. On a tangent, it's the 100 post of this thread, were on track to beating last years thread which got just shy of 400 posts. Well done guys and keep the comments coming. Thanks again xrs and I hope you and the rest of the viewers enjoy the rest of the season and series!

As i was passing by...
First of all, i'd like to thank you, the C:RR writers, for your kind responces. This "review" is the least i can do to thank you for the viewing pleasure "your" Charmed gives me.
To ASTRAL ECHO: Don't worry.. "Mount Sina" (lol) will continue to rumble from time to time.. And it is always watching you... well mostly. So, trust me, if you make any mistakes, that i view as important, i'm going to speak about them, "without mercy". But, seriously, you are doing a very good job so far.
To DRAMA: Glad to have made your week. You, the writers, make mine with this "Reset Reality". About Matt... i'll deal. And about "Dark Charmed": I like it. Realism makes a series more like the real world, more "dark". In the real world, were no clear boundaries exist between Good and Evil, discovering Good is a constant learning experience. So "your" Charmed will mature and grow. Become more adult and "mysterious". And yes "Charmed" SHOULD have become darker inevidably, as the challenges against the Sisters Four would multiply, because Evil would try to find new ways to kill them. "Action and Reaction; Cause and Effect" (the Merovingian, Matrix Reloaded). And... fell free to tell us anything about the plot (sinister laugh). We (the fans) are very good listeners....
xrs
PS: You might want to read what i will post now on the "Smallville" thread. Maybe it will make you understand better the way BAD writing is done...
