Act Five
[Scene: Manor. Kitchen. The sisters, AVA, and LEO are there.][/b]
PRUE: How can Orin be immune to a Power of Three spell?
(PHOEBE shakes her head, frustrated.)PHOEBE: Do I look like I have the answer? All I know is what I saw, and what I saw is the power spell having absolutely no effect on Orin, and then him killing Ava.
PIPER: Is it possible that he isn’t affected by witch’s magic because he’s a gypsy hunter?
PAIGE: But Cree isn’t immune to witch’s magic.
PRUE: I think that Cree isn’t nearly as powerful as his father.
LEO: Maybe that’s it?
PHOEBE: What is?
LEO: Maybe you need more power.
PRUE: More power than the Power of Three?
LEO: Well, gypsy magic wounded Orin once, right? Maybe that’s also what you have to use to kill him.
AVA: It took three Shuvanis last time! I’m the only one left, and I haven’t used my power in years.
LEO: What if you used the entire Shuvani line?
AVA: But that’s impossible.
(The sisters exchange excited looks.)PHOEBE: I’ll go get the spell.
(She starts to leave and PRUE follows her.)PRUE: I’ll go with you, I don’t want you up there alone.
(AVA watches them leave, confused.)AVA: What’s going on?
PIPER: To vanquish our biggest enemy, we had to draw on the power of the entire Warren line. What Leo’s suggesting is that we rewrite The Source Vanquishing Spell to adapt it to Nicolae gypsies.
LEO: Combining the power of the Warren witches and Nicolae gypsies; I don’t think that Orin will stand a chance against that.
[Time lapse. The Charmed Ones and AVA are standing outside the attic. AVA is staring down at a piece of paper in her hands.]PRUE: Are you ready?
AVA: All I do is read this?
PHOEBE: Yes.
PAIGE: And we’ll read it with you.
AVA: Are you sure it’ll work?
(The Charmed Ones exchange looks.)PRUE: It’s the most powerful spell we’ve got.
AVA: In other words, we’re walking into this with our fingers crossed.
(Silence.) Okay, let’s go. Lydia died fighting, the least I can do is attempt to avenge her death.
(She walks inside. PHOEBE looks back at her sisters and then follows AVA into the attic.)PRUE:
(whispering) Stay near Ava and be ready to orb her out if this doesn’t work.
(PAIGE nods and they walk inside.)AVA: So, what now? Do we just wait?
PHOEBE: I guess. The only thing in my vision that should change is how we go about trying to defeat him, so I guess we just-
(ORIN and CREE shimmer in.)PAIGE: Looks like we’ve got company!
(CREE raises his glowing hands, but PHOEBE quickly hurls a green vial from her pocket at him. As it breaks, his body glows a fierce red and then explodes.)ORIN: I don’t need him anymore anyway.
(He laughs and then his eyes glow.)PRUE: Ava, now!
AVA: “Nicolae gypsies stand strong beside me…”
(The green beam flies at AVA, but PRUE holds out her hand and telekinetically deflects it back at ORIN, which merely singes him.)PHOEBE: Keep saying the spell!
AVA: “Marina, Theresea, Lydia…”
(PHOEBE and Paige each place one of their hands on AVA’s shoulders, while PRUE takes PHOEBE’s free hand.)AVA, PAIGE, PHOEBE, & PRUE: “Nicolae gypsies stand strong beside us, vanquish this evil from time and space!”
(ORIN begins to shake. He aims a beam at AVA, but it bounces off an invisible shield of magic.) “Nicolae gypsies stand strong beside us, vanquish this evil from time and space!”
(ORIN’s eyes begin to glow a fierce green.) “Nicolae gypsies stand strong beside us, vanquish this evil from time and space!”
(The green spreads all along ORIN’s body and he lifts into the air, still quaking. AVA and the Charmed Ones’ hair blows wildy around their heads.) “Nicolae gypsies stand strong beside us, vanquish this evil from time and space!”
(Green beams shoot from ORIN’s body, flying everywhere, and then he explodes into a shower of green sparks. AVA drops to her knees and PAIGE knees down, placing a comforting hand to her back.)PAIGE: You do it!
(AVA wipes tears from her eyes.)AVA: M-my mother was here, I felt her during the spell.
PAIGE: Are you okay?
(AVA looks up, smiling through tears.)AVA: Thank you.
PAIGE: You don’t need to thank us-
AVA: Yes.
(She wipes her eyes with the back of her hand.) I do.
(PAIGE helps her to her feet again.) You’ve helped me see the error I’ve committed by abandoning my heritage.
(She sniffs.) And you’ve let me come to peace with my mom. And then, of course, you also saved my life.
(The sisters just smile.) How can I ever repay you?
(PIPER and LEO walk in. PRUE, PHOEBE, and PAIGE exchange knowing looks.)PHOEBE: It’s not so much repayment as it would be a favor to us…
AVA: Anything…
(PAIGE grins.)PAIGE: Well, if you could get Piper’s ultrasound done today-
PHOEBE: And be willing to stick around for the rest of her magical pregnancy-
PRUE: We’d be really grateful.
(AVA gives them a genuine smile.)AVA: Done.
[Time lapse. Piper and Leo's house. A plastic sheet has been taped down over the carpet in the nursery, and the plate for the light switch has been removed. An empty white plastic paint tray is sitting in the middle of the floor, along with a couple of brand new paint brushes. While PIPER is dressed in a pink baby doll top and black jeans, PRUE is wearing contrasting old blue jeans and a semi-baggy white t-shirt, with her hair pulled into a tight ponytail. PAIGE and PHOEBE tromp in, both similarly dressed to the point where even PAIGE’s old clothing have various paint splotches from days gone by on them. Each of the youngest sisters are carrying buckets of paint in their hands and PAIGE even has a few detailing brushes.]PAIGE:
(brightly) All set!
(She sets down the paint and brushes in front of her pregnant sister and PIPER bends down to inspect them as PHOEBE does the same. PIPER wrinkles her nose.)PIPER: “Newborn Pink” and “Banana Crème Yellow”?
(PAIGE excitedly points to the smaller cans.)PAIGE: I’ve also got “Princess Pink” and “African Jungle Green,” for detailing!
(She claps her hands excitedly.) Oh my goodness, Piper, you have no idea how fantastic this room is going to look when I’m all done!
(She practically bounces in excitement.) I’ve got this entire vision
(she spreads out her arms) and it’s going to look amazing!
(LEO pops his head into the room.)LEO:
(to PIPER) Are you ready to go?
(PHOEBE lightly pushes PIPER towards the door.)PHOEBE:
(to LEO) Yes she is.
(to PIPER) We’ve got it all covered here.
(PIPER rolls her eyes as she joins LEO at the door. PAIGE begins to wave her hands impatiently.)PAIGE: Okay, okay! Get going now, will you? We’ve got a lot of work to do and we need to get started!
(LEO drapes his arm around PIPER’s shoulders.)LEO:
(to PAIGE, PHOEBE, and PRUE) Thanks again for offering to do this, it’s a big relief for us.
(Once again, PAIGE waves her hand and gives them a mock glare. LEO laughs.) We’ll be back in a few hours.
PHOEBE: And don’t forget to get multiple pictures, one for each of your adoring sisters!
(PIPER and LEO leave. She turns to PAIGE.) So, what do you want us to start with, Boss?
(PAIGE flicks her hand towards the windows in the corner of the room.)PAIGE: First, go open those up to let the fresh air in. We don’t need to get high on paint fumes.
(She bends down and starts to open one of the cans of paint.) And I think we’ll start with the top of the walls first. We’re leaving the ceiling white,
(she starts to stir the yellow paint) but we’ll be painting the walls yellow a fourth of the way down from the ceiling.
(She pours the paint into the tray and then grabs a long handled brush and begins to roll it in the tray.)PRUE:
(to PHOEBE) I measured and put a few little tape lines up to show where we stop with the yellow.
(PHOEBE props open the windows.)PHOEBE: Great!
(She clasps her hands together in excitement.) Now lets get this show on the road!
(PRUE grabs another long handled brush as PAIGE moves to the wall and begins painting. PHOEBE also moves to grab an extendible brush and gets her roller soaked with paint. PRUE and PHOEBE move to different walls and begin rolling Banana Crème Yellow, in synch with PAIGE, onto the walls of their unborn niece’s room.)[Scene: Bay General. Hospital room. LEO is standing beside the bed, holding PIPER’s hand. PIPER is lying on the bed with clear jelly on her bare stomach. The door opens and DR. AVA NICOLAE walks in. LEO squeezes PIPER’s hand. AVA smiles and walks over to the ultrasound machine, turning it on.]AVA:
(to PIPER) How has your pregnancy been going?
(PIPER nods her head a little.)PIPER: Good…very good.
(She shrugs.) Except for bloating and pigging out, but I’m told that’s normal.
AVA: And the migraines?
PIPER: I haven’t had one since the prescription you last gave to me.
AVA: Great!
(She picks up the stimulator and moves it towards PIPER’s stomach.) Now, I need you to relax.
(PIPER nods.) Is this your first ultrasound?
(Again, PIPER nods.) Okay, this might feel a little strange and cold at first, but I assure you that it’s normal.
(AVA presses the stimulator to PIPER’s abdomen and PIPER jumps a little before adjusting to the feeling. She moves the stimulator as an image pops up on the screen. Everyone glances back at the screen, only to see the image suddenly die. PIPER’s eyes widen in alarm.)PIPER:
(worriedly) Is something wrong?
(AVA frowns.)AVA: I’m not sure…
(She begins to reach for the machine.)LEO:
(shocked) Piper, look!
(PIPER and AVA turn their heads towards LEO, who’s staring down at PIPER’s stomach. PIPER’s jaw drops a little. A small blue shield is hovering over PIPER’s stomach, creating a barrier between it and the stimulator.)AVA:
(amusedly) It appears your child is using its powers to block the scan.
(She takes the stimulator away and a moment later, the blue shield vanishes. PIPER places her hand gently to her stomach.)PIPER: But she’s only ever used her powers when I’ve been in danger, or when I’ve accidentally channeled them.
(She shakes her head.) I don’t understand why she’d use them now…
AVA: It might be interpreting the sound waves as something harmful.
(PIPER gently rubs her stomach.)PIPER: It’s alright, you haven’t got anything to be afraid of. Mommy’s not in any danger.
(She glances up quickly at LEO.)LEO:
(to AVA) Why don’t you try again?
(AVA nods and, once again, places the stimulator to PIPER’s stomach. Almost instantly, the magical shield appears again. She shakes her head.)PIPER:
(worriedly) So what now? I mean, what if something goes wrong because I didn’t have an ultrasound?
AVA:
(soothingly) Don’t worry, Piper.
(She takes the stimulator away and begins to sterilize it.) Generations of women had children before an ultrasound ever existed-
PIPER: And look at their mortality rate!
AVA There are plenty of other modern ways to monitor your child and,
(she motions her hand) by the look of things, it appears perfectly fine right now.
(She turns off the ultrasound machine and hangs up the stimulator.)PIPER: But-
AVA: Why don’t I reschedule your appointment and we’ll try a few different methods next time?
LEO: Like what?
AVA: Well, given your child’s resistance to modern technology, I plan on trying an herbal potion.
(She smiles a little.) Just a few things my mom and Aunt Lydia taught me that, until everything that happened today, I’d forgotten.
(She hands PIPER a towel to wipe off the ultrasound jelly.) While I’ve never personally encountered a case like this before, I know that Lydia performed various midwife duties over the years and if I remember correctly, she’d dealt with a few difficult magical pregnancies.
PIPER: And it’s all completely safe?
(She places her hand to her stomach protectively.)AVA: Absolutely.
(PIPER shifts her eyes to LEO.)PIPER: What do you think?
LEO: I think…
(he places his hand to her stomach and grins proudly) that we’ve been blessed with a very healthy, and very, very special child.
(They share twin smiles.)
