Like Lammas To The Slaughter
Teaser
[Scene: Perry Mansion. Bianca’s bedroom. Five-year-old BIANCA PERRY is sitting on her bed, wagging her legs over it as she sucks on a lollipop. She watches her mother, LYNN PERRY, hurriedly move around the room, opening and closing drawers and shoving clothes into a suitcase. BIANCA pulls the lollipop out of her mouth.]BIANCA: Mommy, why is you packing a suitcase? LYNN: (hushed) Bianca, shh! Keep your voice down! (She presses her finger to her lips to emphasize her point.) BIANCA: (confusedly) Why? LYNN: (hushed) Because we don’t want Grandma Abby to know. BIANCA: But why? LYNN: (exasperated) It’s a secret. ( She reaches for a stuffed animal in the shape of a phoenix from BIANCA’s dresser then hesitates and grabs a teddy bear instead.) You remember what those are, don’t you? (BIANCA nods. LYNN shoves the teddy bear into the suitcase and zips it up. She grabs the handle and moves to the bed, where she takes BIANCA’s hand.)[Cut to Lynn’s bedroom. LYNN and BIANCA shimmer in.]LYNN: (hushed) You and me are going on a little trip, okay? (She moves to the bed and waves her arm, summoning another suitcase, this time bigger. She starts to move between her closet and her dressers, filling the suitcase with essentials.) It’ll be just a vacation for the two of us. Is that okay with you? (BIANCA nods as she sucks on her lollipop.)BIANCA: But won’t Grandma Abby feel lefted out? (LYNN looks wearily at her daughter warily.) LYNN: (hushed) No, honey, she won’t. (She shakes her head.) She’s got Aunt Crystal and Aunt Alexis to keep her company, remember? (BIANCA nods. Just as LYNN begins to pull the suitcase off the bed, there’s a rough knock at her door. Her breath catches as the door handle begins to turn and she quickly waves her hand, making both of the suitcases disappear in a red flare of light. No sooner are they out of sight, ABIGAIL PERRY marches in.)ABIGAIL: (to LYNN) I’ve been looking all over for you. (She produces a photograph and folded piece of paper from her dress pocket and hands it to her daughter.) This is your new assignment. (LYNN looks at the man in the photograph as ABIGAIL steals a glance at BIANCA. She smiles tightly at her granddaughter.) ABIGAIL: What were you two doing? (LYNN looks up.)LYNN: Just talking. (She forces a smile.) Thinking about going to the park a little later, right Bianca? (BIANCA looks at her mother and then at her grandmother and nods.)BIANCA: I like the angels. ABIGAIL: (curiously) Angels? (She eyes LYNN suspiciously.)LYNN: The statues, at the park. (ABIGAIL nods.)ABIGAIL: Oh. (She smiles almost sugary sweetly.) Well…maybe when you get back, I’ll accompany you there? (She strokes BIANCA’s hair.) I like the angels too. (LYNN smiles weakly. ABIGAIL studies her, then nods.) Well, what are you waiting for? The sooner you leave, the sooner you can get back so we can take my favorite little Phoenix to the park. (LYNN looks at BIANCA, then shimmers away. After a moment, ABIGAIL pats BIANCA’s back.) Why don’t you shimmer over to the dining room? We’ll have a little snack, okay Bianca? (BIANCA nods sweetly.)BIANCA: Okay, Grandma! (BIANCA shimmers away. ABIGAIL’s fake smile fades away as she surveys the room. She doesn’t notice anything, so she starts to head for the door when she sees one of the drawers on LYNN’s dresser not completely closed, with a bit of fabric sticking out. She walks over to the drawer and yanks it open, noticing a bunch of clothing is missing. Her face tightens.)ABIGAIL: (bristling) Just talking, were you Lynn? (She slams the drawer closed and shimmers out.)Clickable Credits.

{SCENE: The song “Phoenix,” written and sung by Dan Fogelberg, is heard as stock shots of San Francisco are shown while the Guest Credits are rolled.}
Act One
[Scene: San Francisco. Golden Gate Park. CHRIS HALLIWELL is seated on a white and gray marble bench surrounded by a set of cream colored marble columns, a circle of other benches, and various stone statues of angels. Colorful flowers are growing everywhere and the soft sound of birds happily twittering fills the air, but CHRIS looks depressed in spite of it all. He’s staring at one of the stone angel statues as if in a trance, while his hands are clasped together on his lap. Suddenly, the sound of someone walking towards him causes him to turn around and he sees his twin sister, MELINDA HALLIWELL, walking up. She folds her arms as she sits down on the bench next to him.]MELINDA: I thought I might find you here. CHRIS: What do you want? MELINDA: I know what you’re thinking, Chris, and it’s not a good idea. CHRIS: It’s her mother, Melinda. MELINDA: I know…and I sympathize, I really do- CHRIS: What if it was Mom? (MELINDA looks a little taken aback by the comment, but recovers.)MELINDA: Don’t try to turn this around on me, Chris. You know I’m right. You can’t do it. CHRIS: We came back to change the past, didn’t we? MELINDA: Whoa, since when did we switch sides? CHRIS: I’m not switching sides- MELINDA: Yes you are! Whenever I say even the most minor of things, I get the third degree, yet what you’re talking about is major! CHRIS: Because it’s Bianca! MELINDA: It’s not your place to change this! We did not come back here to change it. Doing so could have drastic repercussions- CHRIS: I know you don’t understand this, Melinda, but when you love someone, you’re willing to do things you would never considering otherwise. (He opens his hands to reveal a diamond engagement ring in his palm.) Even if it means you’ll suffer in the end. (He closes his palm and stands up.) I hope one day that will make sense to you. (MELINDA grabs for him, but he orbs out. She clutches her fist.)MELINDA: That’s what got us into this mess in the first place... [Scene: Contra Costa. A large country-style red painted house sits in front of a dirt road. A sign about ten yards away reads, “Joerling Farm” with a pentacle carved into the sign below it painted in yellow to represent the sun with various vegetables and fruits such as corn and apples in front of a wheat field. Under the picture is the word, “Welcome!” The sign is situated next to a dirt walkway that curves up and around from the dirt road, where LEO WYATT, pushing a double stroller, is walking with his wife, PIPER HALLIWELL, and his three sister-in-laws, PRUE HALLIWELL, PHOEBE HALLIWELL, and PAIGE MATTHEWS. LEO has the Twins’ diaper bag draped over his shoulder while PIPER has her arms full carrying a picnic two rectangular blocks wrapped in red and white checkered cloth. Beside her, PRUE is carrying a picnic basket. PHOEBE keeps looking at PAIGE, who is dressed in curvy pale yellow Gothic dress that is laced up the front, has long flowing bell sleeves, and a curved neckline. On the space of her bare neck she’s wearing a silver pentacle necklace. PHOEBE keeps snickering under her breath until PAIGE finally reaches over and smacks her on the arm.]PRUE: (warningly) Okay, children! Time to cut it out! PHOEBE: I can’t help it! (She snickers again, but dodges PAIGE’s second attempt to hit her.) She looks like she’s ready for a Renaissance Faire, not a Lammas Festival. PAIGE: For your information, I spent an entire day researching ceremonial Wiccan garb online before I bought this. PHOEBE: But only extremists wear stuff like that. PIPER: (to PHOEBE) Oh, you’re one to talk! (PAIGE raises her eyebrow.)PAIGE: (to PIPER) Care to elaborate? PIPER: The first time she talked me into going to our first Wiccan Sabbat, the Autumnal Equinox, she didn’t think twice about doing a ceremonial dance in the nude! (PAIGE whips her head around.)PAIGE: And you call me an extremist?! (She slaps at PHOEBE again and this time PHOEBE isn’t able to dodge. PHOEBE rubs her arm and glares at PIPER.)PHOEBE: Thanks, Piper! (She snorts.) And if I remember correctly, I wasn’t the only sister dancing nude! (LEO’s mouth drops open.)LEO: What? (He turns to his wife in shock and PIPER’s face turns beat red.)[Cut to inside the farm house. It is crowded with people, most of them women. About a third of the guests are dressed in costume-like clothing. Some hold brooms, others have conical hats, some wear halos of flowers on their heads, and some are just dressed in normal clothing. A blonde woman in a long tan colored crepe dress with a lace-up back and a sunflower garland in her hair is standing at a table filled with an array of different breads, muffins, rolls, and croissants as well as an assortment of jams, jellies, and preserves and other various treats. She picks up a roll and coats it in a layer of peach preserves, then turns to reveal herself as SAMANTHA FINN. As she raises the peach covered roll to her lips she sees the CHARMED ONES and PIPER walk in, with LEO pushing in the double stroller last. Her eyes light up as she waves.]SAMANTHA: Piper! (She wades through the crowd.) Phoebe! Prue! (She reaches the sisters and exchanges hugs with all of them and finally LEO.) Paige, Leo, (she grins) I’m so glad you all were able to make it! PRUE: Well, we figured it was about time we embrace some of the fun that comes along with the craft. PHOEBE: (muttering) Some a little more than others. (PAIGE elbows PHOEBE and points to the crowd.)PAIGE: (whispering) I think I fit right in. (SAMANTHA doesn’t hear Paige’s comment, but she notices her dress.)SAMANTHA: Hey, great dress! (PAIGE gives PHOEBE a boastful look.)PAIGE: Oh, well, thank you! (She brushes it with her fingers.) I’m glad I’m not the only one. PIPER: (surprised) Wow, there sure are a lot of people here. (SAMANTHA nods.)SAMANTHA: Yeah, it’s grown exponentially in the last couple years, which is why we started having it at the farm. (PRUE smiles.)PRUE: Well, the more the merrier I say. SAMANTHA: That’s pretty much the consensus around here. (PIPER holds up her cloth wrapped rectangles.)PIPER: Any idea where I can put these? (SAMANTHA takes one of the rectangles and unwraps it, revealing a golden brown loaf of fresh baked bread.)SAMANTHA: Oh, Piper, that’s so sweet. You didn’t have to. PIPER: That’s okay, I wanted to. (She smiles.) I’m a chef, so when you mentioned people were going to be bringing food contributions, I had fix up my own. (PRUE holds up her arm revealing her picnic basket.)PRUE: She also made some homemade jellies. SAMANTHA: Fantastic! (She motions her hand.) The tables are this way; I’m sure we can move some things around and make room. (She heads off with the sisters and LEO right behind her.)[Scene: San Francisco. Pier 39. Hard Rock Cafe. A pair of hands are holding up a newspaper under a large umbrella. The newspaper is set down, revealing LYNN in dark sunglasses. She nonchalantly picks up a hot cup of coffee and pretends to sip it, all the while secretly peering over the rim at a man - the same man from the photograph ABIGAIL had provided her with - in his early to mid thirties who is sitting three tables away, with a bright eyed young woman who appears to be a few years younger than him and a little girl, around the age of five or so. LYNN sets her coffee down and continues watching, this time without an obstructed view. The man gives the woman a kiss on the lips and they get up and then he scoops the little girl off her seat and spins her around causing her to giggle with wild abandon. The woman laughs and the man kisses the girl on the nose, then sets her down. The woman and child walk away as the man gathers his morning paper and heads in the other direction. LYNN also stands up and she begins to follow him.]WOMAN's VOICE: Jerry! (LYNN stops walking and looks back at the same time the man, JERRY, does. The woman he’d been sitting with runs up to him and hands him something small that LYNN can’t quite make out from her vantage point.) WOMAN's VOICE: You can’t forget this. JERRY: Thank you! (They kiss again.) I wouldn’t miss it. (The woman leaves again as JERRY stuffs what the woman gave him into his wind breaker pocket and continues walking. LYNN waits to make sure the woman is gone for good this time, then she speeds up after him.)[Cut to the parking lot. JERRY walks up to his car, a white 2003 Cadillac CTS, and retrieves his keys from his pocket. He presses a button and the car alarm deactivates. As he opens the driver’s side door, LYNN shimmers in behind a parked car. She watches him, checks to make sure nobody is around, then summons an energy ball to her palm. She rears her arm back but as she’s about to throw it, she hesitates. Her arm quivers and she closes her eyes. The man ducks into the car and shuts the door. She looks back and forth again as the Cadillac roars to life and finally she throws the energy ball. It hits the car, creating a loud explosion as the hood flies off the car. She throws another energy ball, hitting the engine. A fiery explosion erupts, breaking windows and blowing open the doors. LYNN covers her eyes until the blaze dies down, then she runs over to the car to find her victim lying on the ground outside of it. She bends down and presses her finger to his neck for a pulse. The man groans, but doesn’t awaken. She breaths a sigh of relief and shimmers out. Moments later, CRYSTAL PERRY shimmers into the spot LYNN just vacated. She looks down at the man, who is still groaning. She shakes her head disgustedly and summons an energy ball which she hits him, creating a bloody gash in his chest, killing him instantly. She shimmers out.]
[Scene: Perry Mansion. Hallway. ABIGAIL is standing silently in the entrance to the den, watching BIANCA innocently have a tea party with her stuffed animals. CRYSTAL shimmers in beside her mother, but neither of them look at each other. CRYSTAL holds her hands behind her back as she eyes her niece.]CRYSTAL: (quietly) Your suspicions proved correct…she didn’t kill the target, she merely wounded him. ABIGAIL: (quietly) Did you finish the job? CRYSTAL: (quietly) Of course. (ABIGAIL finally shifts her eyes to CRYSTAL.)ABIGAIL: (quietly) Lynn always has been the weak link. (She purses her lips as she steals another glance at BIANCA.)CRYSTAL: (quietly) What do you propose we do? ABIGAIL: (quietly) I’ll speak with her. CRYSTAL: (quietly) And if that doesn’t work? ABIGAIL: (quietly) Let’s just hope she doesn’t force my hand… [Scene: Contra Costa. Joerling Farm. PIPER is sitting on a bale of hay with the Twins’ double stroller, with its shade down, by her side. She’s nibbling on a roll covered in plum jam as LEO walks over with two cups of lemonade. He hands one to PIPER and seats himself down next to her. He looks up to see a group of people dancing around and chanting in the field ahead of them and squints his eyes.]LEO: (surprised) Is that Paige? (PIPER laughs as she nods in confirmation.)PIPER: Some girl she met named Tallie invited her to join them in some kind of ceremonial dance that’s supposed to give thanks for the harvest. LEO: She sure seems to be enjoying herself. PIPER: Yeah, (she sips her lemonade) she’s really taking this whole Wiccan thing pretty seriously. (pause) She actually reminds me a lot of Phoebe, back when we first learned we were witches. (She shrugs.) I guess maybe being young makes it more exciting or something. LEO: Speaking of Phoebe, where did she wonder off to? PIPER: Oh, (she waves her hand dismissively) Prue spotted this woman carrying peach cobbler and developed a craving so she wondered off to find some and Phoebe decided to tag along. (She shakes her head.) I don’t know where they are now. (On the field, the dance ends but several of the people stay to talk. PAIGE, however, slips out of the group and heads over to PIPER and LEO. She wipes her flushed brow as she sits down on a separate bale of hay.)PAIGE: Man, Piper, you should’ve come! It was awesome! (She wipes her brow again.) Like a workout video, but it was actually fun. PIPER: Yeah, well… (She motions to the stroller.) Someone had to stay with the Twins. (PAIGE rolls her eyes.)PAIGE: Copout. (She notices a water bottle in the bottom meshed sack on the stroller.) Hey, I’m sweating all over, (she points to the bottle) do you mind? PIPER: Have at it. (She holds up the punch.) I’m good. (PAIGE snatches up the bottled water, twists off the cap, and begins to gulp it down.)[Cut to Phoebe. She’s standing in front of a closed bathroom door, hopping from side to side as if she’s about to burst. She jiggles the handle.]WOMAN’s VOICE: (irritated) Occupied! (PHOEBE bounces anxiously.)PHOEBE: C’mon, c’mon, c’mon! (She scrunches up her face.) Hurry up! Other people have to go to you know! (She hears the sound of the toilet flush and groans.) Oh boy, I swear I’m never having five continuous glasses of lemonade ever again! (She flexes her fingers anxiously as she hears the sink turn on.) Oh man, you’re killin’ me out here lady! (She leans up against the wall.) Think about something else…something dry…the desert…hot…water deprived… (The door opens.) Thank you! (She shoves by the woman walking out and is about to shut the door when someone else pushes back on it. PHOEBE looks irked.) Hey, wait in- ( The door bursts open and a woman a little younger than PHOEBE bursts in. PHOEBE jumps back in surprise.) What the hell! (She points.) Get out! WOMAN: No, you don’t understand- PHOEBE: Get out! (PHOEBE moves to shove the woman, but the woman grabs PHOEBE’s arms and swings her to the side, throwing her to the ground. PHOEBE yelps and is about to yell when she looks up and sees a demon standing near the toilet. He has glowing red eyes and a sneer on his face as his penetrating eyes lock onto the two women.)BREAK

Act Two
[Scene: Contra Costa. Joerling Farm. Bathroom. PHOEBE, the younger woman, and a demon with glowing red eyes are there. Two red beams shoot from the demon’s eyes at the mystery woman, who slides out of the way. Two holes are created in the wall from the attack. The woman snatches a can of potpourri scented air freshener from the sink and sprays it in the demon’s glowing eyes. The demon screams in agony, temporarily blinded.]WOMAN: (to PHOEBE) Get out of here now! PHOEBE: Not likely. (She jumps up from the floor and jumps into a roundhouse kick, using her levitation to amp up the force. The demon falls backwards onto the toilet as he clutches his face.) That’s for damage to the wall. (PHOEBE drops to her feet. She reaches into her jacket pocket and pulls out a green potion vial.) And this is for interrupting me in the bathroom! (She hurls the potion at the demon. It hits him and he yowls and explodes, leaving a scorch mark behind. PHOEBE turns slowly, noticing the woman’s shocked expression.) No offense, (she motions to the can of air freshener in the woman’s grip) but you aren’t going to be able to vanquish many demons with that. WOMAN: I- (PHOEBE holds up her hand.)PHOEBE: Excuse me, but can we hold off on the formalities for another three minutes? (She nods in the direction of the toilet.) I (emphasizing) really need to go! WOMAN: Oh! (She blushes.) Sorry! (She drops the air freshener back on the sink and backs out of the bathroom. PHOEBE quickly shuts the door and locks it.)[Scene: San Francisco. Manor. Attic. CHRIS is standing before the Book of Shadows with his hand raised. The pages in the Book are turning slowly with every flip of his wrist.]MELINDA’s VOICE: (telepathically) Chris, this isn’t going to work. (CHRIS looks irritated.)CHRIS: (telepathically) Get out of my head! MELINDA’s VOICE: (telepathically) This isn’t going to work; not being a witch has you as a bit of a disadvantage. You know you can’t scry for her without me and I’m not about to let you do this. CHRIS: (telepathically) I don’t need your help. (He sees his desired spell in the Book of Shadows and holds up his hand in a stopping position.) Leave me alone Melinda! (He moves to the Book and produces a notepad and pen from his pocket. He writes down the spell.)MELINDA’s VOICE: (telepathically) Oh no, don’t do this! Chris! (CHRIS finishes copying the spell and stuffs it into his pocket and then begins to rub his temples.) MELINDA’s VOICE: Chris! Don’t shut me out! CHRIS: (telepathically) Bye Mel. MELINDA’s VOICE: (telepathically) You can’t keep me out for long! (The sound of her thoughts grows faint.) I’m going to be back in your head before you know it! Ch- (The sound of her thoughts disappear. CHRIS opens his eyes and waits, but only silence greets him. He breaths a relieved sigh and orbs out.)[Cut to Melinda. She’s sitting in the back of a cab which is parked in the middle of stuck traffic. She curls her fist and hits the seat.]MELINDA: Damnit! [Scene: Contra Costa. Joerling Farm. PAIGE is now seated next to the Twins’ stroller on the bale of hay. She has her eye on PIPER and LEO who are dancing together amongst several other couples out in the field. PRUE walks up with a plate stacked with sweet morsels.]PAIGE: Geeze Prue, did you go hold up a bakery or something? (PRUE sits down next to her sister and stabs her peach cobbler with a plastic fork.)PRUE: Oh my gosh, this is to die for! You have to try some! (She shoves her plate at PAIGE, but PAIGE politely declines.)PAIGE: I’ve tasted peach cobbler and nothing can match Piper’s. (PRUE nods as she stuffs a bite in her mouth and quickly swallows.)PRUE: You raise a good point, but as far as runners up are concerned, I think this one is pretty damn good. PAIGE: Judging by Piper’s pregnancy, I’d say most anything tastes pretty damn good around this point. (PRUE rolls her eyes.)PRUE: Not true. (She shrugs.) But I’m not going to argue; when you’re pregnant, you’ll find out for yourself. PAIGE: More like if. PRUE: If? If what? PAIGE: If I’m pregnant. I haven’t decided if I ever want my own kids. I mean, I love them, don’t get me wrong, but I don’t know if I could handle being a mom. Being an aunt and a social worker is crazy enough. PRUE: Well (dismissively) you’re still young. (PAIGE glares.)PAIGE: What is that supposed to mean? (PRUE stabs her plastic fork into another piece of cobbler and eats it.)PRUE: I’m just saying that sometimes you don’t know what you want ‘til it’s gone. But, (she smiles) the good news is that you and Glenn are on the right track, so I don’t think that should be a problem for you. (PAIGE laughs slightly.)PAIGE: If you’re hinting at what I think you’re hinting at, then I have to ask, have you met Glenn? PRUE: He seems sweet. (She winks.)PAIGE: Yeah and he’s also most definitely not the settling down type. He’s been in overdrive for as long as I’ve known him. (She runs her hand through her hair.) I like to think I- (A loud cry sounds from the stroller. PAIGE holds up her hand.) Oh! (She turns and peeks under the shade on the stroller, then looks back at PRUE.) Ergh, (she stands up) I think I need to take this one. It smells like someone needs a change. (PAIGE gets up and pushes the stroller away. PRUE watches her youngest sister disappear into the crowd with the stroller and shakes her head a little. She finishes up the last bite of her peach cobbler and wipes the corners of her mouth.)PRUE: An aunt is only a breath away from being a mom. [Cut to Phoebe. She walks out of the bathroom to find the young woman who’d burst in on her still there. PHOEBE looks back and forth, then motions her hand.]PHOEBE: Walk with me. (They start walking.) So, just out of curiosity…how did you know about that demon? (The young woman laughs.)WOMAN: Afraid I might be a demon too? (PHOEBE narrows her eyes.)PHOEBE: No, but now that you bring it up- WOMAN: I had a vision. PHOEBE: (surprised) A vision? WOMAN: Yeah, they’re called- PHOEBE: Premonitions. (This time, the young woman looks surprised.)WOMAN: Yeah. (pause) Usually people don’t know that, but then again, none of my innocents have ever been magically adept before. PHOEBE: Well, I’m usually not the innocent. It’s kind of odd being on the other side of the tracks actually. (She holds out her hand.) I’m Phoebe, by the way. (They shake hands.)WOMAN: It’s nice to meet you, Phoebe. I’m Trina. PHOEBE: It’s nice to meet you, Trina. (pause) Can I ask you something? TRINA: Sure. PHOEBE: (curiously) How long have you had your premonitions? TRINA: How long? PHOEBE: Yeah, well, (she waves her hand) you seem kind of young. (TRINA rolls her eyes.)TRINA: I get that a lot. (She shrugs.) I’ve had them my whole life. (pause) And I’m actually in college, so I’m not that young. PHOEBE: College, huh? Locally? TRINA: Mhmm. CCC. PHOEBE: CCC? TRINA: Contra Costa College. I’m aiming to become a History Major. PHOEBE: A History Major. (She nods.) That’s…interesting. TRINA: Well, that’s a lie if I ever heard one. (PHOEBE laughs.)PHOEBE: Well, I can’t say that I ever really enjoyed history. It’s always been a little dry for me. TRINA: That’s what a lot of people say. I think it really has to do with the teachers…and books and personal experience. PHOEBE: Personal experience? TRINA: Yeah. For me, I think it has to do with my powers. I can see things that happened in different times, so finding out more about events that happened in different times really intrigues me. PHOEBE: Any particular era? TRINA: No, not really. Everything about history fascinates me. (pause) Though, I guess anything relating to me is particularly interesting. Family history, really. In fact, I really want to be a genealogist after I graduate. PHOEBE: A genealogist, (she nods) now that is something I find pretty cool. Although I honestly can’t wrap my head around the things those people do. I mean, it seems kind of impossible, doesn’t? (TRINA grins.)TRINA: Yeah and some people think magic is kind of impossible. (She winks.) To each her own. (They pass a table of children making corn husk dolls. PHOEBE smiles a little. As they walk away, PHOEBE whips her head back to TRINA.)PHOEBE: Hey, just out of curiosity, you wouldn’t know how much a genealogist might cost, do you? TRINA: You mean hiring one? (PHOEBE nods.) Well, it depends on what you’re looking for and how far back you want to look. (pause) Is there someone you think you might be interested in researching? PHOEBE: Well, sort of. (pause) It’s more like an entire branch of my family tree that I didn’t know about until recently. (She wrings her fingers in contemplation.) I’ve been thinking about it a lot lately and I have this theory that maybe if I know more about this other branch, maybe it will help me to understand a relative from it and better equip me to defeat- (TRINA gives her an odd look) I mean deal with her. (She nods her head quickly.) Knowledge is power, right? (TRINA stares at PHOEBE for moment and then she nods her head.)TRINA: I think I can help you... (She looks around.) But we’re going to need to find some place more quiet and secluded. (A questioning look appears on PHOEBE’s face. TRINA snaps her fingers.) Come on! I think I know just the spot! [Scene: San Francisco. Perry Mansion. Hallway. LYNN is walking down the hallway when CRYSTAL shimmers into her path. LYNN jumps and presses her hand to her chest. CRYSTAL has her arms folded across her chest in intimidation.]CRYSTAL: (snidely) A little jumpy there, Sis? (LYNN shakes her head.)LYNN: Just…preoccupied, that’s all. CRYSTAL: Mhmm. (LYNN attempts to move around her sister, but CRYSTAL blocks her.)LYNN: Did you need something? CRYSTAL: Mother sent me to fetch you when you got back. (pause) What took you so long, by the way? (LYNN swallows uneasily.)LYNN: I was waiting to get him alone. CRYSTAL: So you killed him then? LYNN: Of course! (She shakes her head.) You know I wouldn’t have left without finishing the job. (They share tense looks.)CRYSTAL: Mother’s waiting for you in her study. LYNN: Thank you for letting me know. (She shimmers out. CRYSTAL shifts her eyes and a moment later, she shimmers off as well.)[Cut to Abigail’s study. ABIGAIL is seated at her desk with two muscular demons sitting across from her. She appears to be in the middle of a conversation when LYNN shimmers in. ABIGAIL lifts her eyes and the conversation ceases. She smiles tensely at the demons across the table and waves her arm.]ABIGAIL: I apologize, but I have to take care of a little family business at the moment. May we reconvene tomorrow evening? (One of the demons turns to look at LYNN. He quickly shifts his focus back to ABIGAIL.)DEMON: Same time? ABIGAIL: Of course. (The demons nod and haze out. ABIGAIL beckons for LYNN to take a seat.)LYNN: What did you need me for? ABIGAIL: I believe we have a problem. LYNN: A problem? (ABIGAIL waves her arm and on the desk, the victim that LYNN was supposed to kill appears in a flare. LYNN leans back, shocked.)ABIGAIL: That problem. (She rises from her seat.) Your sister had to finish you assignment for you. (She grabs LYNN's wrist and yanks her up from the chair.) I do hope you have a good explanation for why that is! (LYNN shakes her head rapidly.)LYNN: The explosion, I thought I- CRYSTAL's VOICE: Saved him? (LYNN whips her head around to see CRYSTAL standing nearby.) CRYSTAL: Yeah, that’s right, (sneering) Sis. I was there, tracking you. You made sure he was alive before you left. (Without warning, ABIGAIL backhands LYNN across the cheek, knocking her backwards into the chair.)ABIGAIL: Who do you think you are?! Phoenixes have one loyalty: each other! (She holds out her hand and an athame appears in a red flare.) I should take care of you right now for your betrayal! (She makes a quick motion of her hand, pressing the blade to LYNN's neck in the blink of an eye. LYNN holds her breath as ABIGAIL applies pressure, slicing the skin with the point just enough to draw blood. ABIGAIL’s eyes sear into LYNN’s. ABIGAILl withdraws the athame.) Instead, I’ll be generous. (She shoves the athame into LYNN’s hand.) I have another assignment for you. (She snaps her fingers and ALEXIS shimmers in, holding onto BIANCA’s hand. ABIGAIL grins.) And this time, you’re going to be taking Bianca on a little field trip. BREAK

Act Three
[Scene: Contra Costa. Joerling Farm. Stables. TRINA and PHOEBE are walking down the isle. A few horses are neighing at them. PHOEBE lifts a curious eyebrow. ]PHOEBE: The stables? TRINA: The barn would’ve been ideal, but during Lammas people like to gather there and perform ritual dances, so it really wouldn’t have been that quiet. (They reach the back of the stables and TRINA points to several stacks of hay. She and PHOEBE sit down together.)PHOEBE: So, how exactly is this going to help me with genealogy? TRINA: Well… (She purses her lips nervously.) It’s my power. PHOEBE: I thought you said your power was premonitions? TRINA: That’s one of my powers. Well, first, actually. The power I’m about to use is an extension of my premonitions. It’s called retro projection. (PHOEBE shakes her head.)PHOEBE: I’ve never heard of that. TRINA: It’s like astral projection, but instead of taking me to another location, it takes me into the past...hence “retro” projection. PHOEBE: Wait, so you can time travel? TRINA: Not exactly. I can’t actually affect anything in the past, I can only observe it. My projection is really more of a ghost; it can’t be seen or heard. (PHOEBE narrows her eyes.)PHOEBE: No offense, but doesn’t this seem a little personal gainish to you? To use your power this way I mean? (TRINA shakes her head.)TRINA: How am I gaining anything from helping you? PHOEBE: I guess you have point. (TRINA smiles.)TRINA: Okay, so what I need from you is a little bit of information. This ancestor or branch of family, tell me a little bit about them. Get a mental image of them in your head. It’s okay if you don’t exactly know what they look like, just try to focus on your image of them based on what you know already. PHOEBE: How does that help us? TRINA: I need something to focus on in order to pinpoint a place to project to. Usually I have a picture or video or something. Since I’m doubting you have any pictures just sitting in your pockets right now, I need you to get a mental image instead. (PHOEBE rubs her knee in concentration.)PHOEBE: Give me your hands. (She holds out her own. TRINA looks confused.)TRINA: I thought you didn’t know how this works? PHOEBE: Huh? (She shakes her head.) No, I have another idea, just trust me. (TRINA hesitates but eventually takes PHOEBE’s hands. PHOEBE closes her eyes.) PHOEBE: Relax. (TRINA’s grip loosens to a comfortable squeeze.) PHOEBE: Close your eyes. (TRINA closes her eyes. PHOEBE inhales and exhales a few times. Suddenly, TRINA squeezes PHOEBE’s hands and goes rigid for several seconds. Moments later, her eyes open and meet PHOEBE’s.) PHOEBE: Did you see a blonde woman introducing her new son to her daughter? (TRINA nods.)TRINA: How did you do that? PHOEBE: I also have the gift of premonitions. (TRINA looks surprised.) PHOEBE: That baby boy in your vision, he and his descendants are the ones I want to find out about. I know it isn’t exactly a picture or a video, but I thought it might work just as well…if not better. (She starts to let go of TRINA’s hand, but TRINA squeezes PHOEBE's hands.)TRINA: No, don’t. He’s your relative, so by being connected to you, I have a better chance of projecting to the right person in time. (PHOEBE nods a little.)PHOEBE: I guess that kind of makes sense. TRINA: Well, it is how I’ve done this for people before. PHOEBE: You’ve done this before? TRINA: Practice makes perfect, right? [Scene: San Francisco. Hamilton Pool. A middle aged woman is swimming laps in the pool, unaware of the three Phoenixes watching her near the diving board. BIANCA stares wide eyed at the swimmer. She leans forward near the edge of the pool, but ABIGAIL presses her hand to BIANCA’s chest and pulls her back, keeping her both a safe distance from the pool’s edge and from LYNN.]BIANCA: What we doing here, Mommy? (ABIGAIL tilts her head with a vindictive smile.)ABIGAIL: Bianca has a question, Lynn. Why don’t you enlighten her about her destiny? (LYNN looks between her mother and daughter. ABIGAIL gently strokes BIANCA’s hair, keeping both hands protectively on her granddaughter.) ABIGAIL: Lynn? (LYNN swallows uneasily.)LYNN: Phoenixes have jobs, Bianca. (She eyes the woman in the pool.) There are some people we have to…vanquish. (BIANCA blinks innocently.)BIANCA: You mean…kill? (Silence.)LYNN: Yes. (She turns her eyes away from her daughter and swallows painfully. An athame appears in her fist.)BIANCA: Mommy? LYNN: (pleadingly) Bianca- BIANCA: (innocently) What does it feel like to kill? (LYNN visibly stiffens. ABIGAIL nearly smiles. The woman in the pool begins to get out. LYNN begins to breath heavily.)ABIGAIL: Lynn? LYNN: (stoically) You don’t feel a thing. (As the woman from the pool walks over to a bench and grabs her folded towel, LYNN shimmers behind her. From ABIGAIL and BIANCA’s vantage point, LYNN presses the athame to the woman’s throat with lightning quick reflexes. But all of the sudden, the woman elbows LYNN in the gut. LYNN falls to the ground and so does the athame as the swimmer turns around. LYNN grabs the athame and shimmers out of sight. As the swimmer lifts her eyes to look for LYNN, she sees ABIGAIL and BIANCA. An energy ball appears in ABIGAIL’s hand. She’s about to throw it at the swimmer when her body stiffens and her grasp on BIANCA is lifted. ABIGAIL turns her head to see LYNN standing behind her, with her hand still on the handle of the athame lodged into ABIGAIL’s back. LYNN grabs BIANCA’s hand and shimmers out with her. Painfully, ABIGAIL reaches her arm around her back and yanks out the bloody weapon. Her wound heals itself, but when she looks back in the direction of the target, she is also gone. ABIGAIL’s knuckles turn white as she clutches the athame.)ABIGAIL: (seething) That was your last chance! (She shimmers out.)[Scene: Cemetery. The first line of a dark marble headstone reads “Alejandro Cruz.” Under the name the dates of birth and death read, “June 7, 1972 - February 13, 1997.” A slight breeze knocks a leaf off the tree that’s shadowing the headstone, and it falls next to a fresh bouquet of flowers that have been placed at the base of the headstone. LYNN shimmers in with BIANCA, who is quivering and on the verge of tears.]BIANCA: (frightened) Mommy, what’s going on? Why are shimmering all over? (LYNN hugs BIANCA.)LYNN: Shh. (She looks around warily.)(BIANCA sees the headstone.)BIANCA: We’re visiting Daddy again? LYNN: Yes, honey. (She strokes BIANCA’s hair.) They can’t find us here…at least not right away. (She opens up her hand and a small Grimoire appears in a flare. She flips through it and then kneels down to meet BIANCA’s eye level.)BIANCA: Mommy, I’m scared. (LYNN pulls BIANCA to her chest and hugs her.)LYNN: I know, baby. (As she hugs her daughter, she looks over BIANCA’s shoulder at her hand, which is marking a page in the Grimoire.)“Close your eyes, Your thoughts are numbered, Cross into a peaceful slumber.” (BIANCA falls limp in LYNN’s arms. She stands and rubs BIANCA’s back. She leans close to BIANCA’s ear, almost ready to whisper something.)CHRIS’s VOICE: It’s for her own good. (LYNN spins around wide eyed. CHRIS steps out from behind the tree, wearing a backpack. The Grimoire vanishes and an energy ball fills the empty space in her hand. CHRIS holds up his hands defensively.) CHRIS: Wait, don’t! I only want to help! LYNN: (distrustfully) Who are you? CHRIS: I can’t tell you. (LYNN rears back the energy ball, but CHRIS squints and the energy ball flies harmlessly into the back of a nearby headstone. Before she can summon another one, he retrieves the spell he copied from the Book of Shadows and holds it out to LYNN.) CHRIS: Please, just take this! (LYNN eyes him distrustfully.)LYNN: What is it? CHRIS: It’s a spell; it’ll hide you from your mother. LYNN: How do you know about her? (She holds BIANCA tighter.) Are you working for her? (CHRIS shakes his head.)CHRIS: Let’s just say I know the future. (LYNN tilts her head.)LYNN: You’re saying you’re clairvoyant? CHRIS: I’m saying that if you want to escape with Bianca, permanently, you need that spell. (He looks around.) Once you’ve cast it, you’ll be off her immediate radar. Then you’ll need to bind your powers to make sure it stays that way. LYNN: Why should I trust you? CHRIS: Because if you don’t, you’ll be putting both your lives at risk. (pause) You don’t really want her (he nods to the sleeping child) to be raised as Phoenix, do you? (He looks at Alejandro’s headstone.) You never wanted her to know the life of a Phoenix in the first place. (LYNN’s eyes briefly eye the headstone. CHRIS holds out the spell to her again. They lock eyes and she takes the sheet from him. He pulls the backpack off his back and shoves it at LYNN.) You’ll need this too. Follow the instructions on the back of the spell. (He glances over his shoulder.) Once you’ve cast the spell, meet me at the bus station in an hour. I’ll be waiting near the restrooms. (CHRIS orbs out. LYNN looks down at the spell and then her eyes flick to her daughter. She kneels down next to the tree and gently lays BIANCA on the ground, with the child’s head in her lap. LYNN opens the backpack to reveal a large white candle. She pulls it out and turns the backpack over. A pack of matches and a plastic bag of salt fall out. She turns over CHRIS’s spell and reads it, then proceeds to tear off one of the matches and lights the candle.)LYNN: “Protect from prying eyes, What only I can see, For this daughter of mine, Make a veil of mystic worth, Let lines be blurred, Blended, smudged, and slurred, Only my eyes can see, The secret which entrusted be.” (LYNN opens the ziplock bag and pours the salt into her hand. She creates a salt circle around her and BIANCA and throws the remaining salt into the flickering flame. The steadily flame turns violet and lavender smoke begins to waft from it. A white light bursts from the flame without warning.)[Scene: Contra Costa. Joerling Farm. Barn. A group of people are performing a circle dance in the middle of the barn. Music is reverberating in the laugh, mixing with laughter, voices, song, and the rhythmic thumping of feet.]
[Cut to the rafters. An owl with glowing red eyes is perched on one of the beams, watching the circle dance from above. The owl tilts its head curiously as the barn doors open and it sees another group of people walk in. Among them are PAIGE, PRUE, PIPER, LEO, and a young brunette girl, TALLIE. The owl hoots, but no one in the barn seems to notice. On either side of him, two red flushes appear, depositing two more owls with glowing eyes.]
[Cut to the sisters, Leo, and Tallie. The circle dance is slowing down. PAIGE frowns.]PAIGE: Oh man, it looks like we missed it. TALLIE: Actually, you’re just in time. (She motions her hand as several people start to collect sheaves of grain from around the barn.) They’re just about to do an offering to the gods. (PIPER glances at PAIGE.)PIPER: (amusedly) You want to do an offering to the gods? (PAIGE places her hands on her hips.)PAIGE: You know what, why not? (to TALLIE) Where do I start? TALLIE: Just grab some grain and follow me over to the altar. (to PRUE and PIPER) Do either of you want to partake as well? (PRUE and PIPER shake their heads in unison.)PRUE: Thanks, but I think we’ll pass. PAIGE: Suit yourselves. (She grabs a fistful of sheaved grain and follows TALLIE over to the gathering group. PIPER shakes her head.)PIPER: I can’t believe she’s actually doing that. Dancing is one thing, but offerings? It’s not like she actually believes a bunch of gods. LEO: It’s the principle, Piper. She wants to take part in tradition. Is there really anything wrong with that? Besides, how do you know the gods they worship don’t exist? With everything you’ve seen, I’d think you’d be more open than that. (PRUE nods.)PRUE: He’s got a point there, Piper. (A blue force field suddenly shoots up around the stroller. PIPER’s mouth drops open.)PIPER: What the- (A scream cuts her off. Her attention, as well as PRUE’s and LEO’s, is pulled to the group at the end of the barn. Three demons with glowing eyes are attacking them.)PRUE: O-o-oh! (She raises her hand and one of the demons is thrown into a stack of hay. Just as that happens, she sees two more demons flush in.)LEO: It’s a faction! (In the thick of the group, PAIGE is shoved to the ground. She looks just in time to see one of the demons grab hit TALLIE in the arm with a red beam from his eyes. TALLIE falls to the ground and the flesh on her arm begins to melt off. Her agonizing scream melds with the other victims. The demon that attacked TALLIE leans over her and grabs her neck. Another beam shoots from his eyes into hers. She begins to shake as her skin begins to liquefy. PAIGE’s face twists into something from a horror movie.)PAIGE: No! (She throws up her hands in desperation. The screams begin to die out and the movement rolls to a halt. In a split second, the events of the past few minutes begin to reverse themselves in a flurry of motion. When time finally resumes, PAIGE finds herself following TALLIE towards the Wiccan altar, just as three owls are flying down at the group. PAIGE drops her sheaves of grain and points.) Look out! (PIPER looks up as PAIGE yells. The Twins’ force field rises up around the stroller as the owls transform into their human forms. One of the demons grab a nearby witch and shoots a red beam into her eyes. As her skin begins to liquefy, PRUE throws up her arm. A bolt of electricity arches from her palm and penetrates between the demon’s shoulder blades. He explodes and the woman drops to the ground, nearly dead. LEO runs towards the fallen witch as PIPER scrambles to pull potion vials from the Twins’ diaper bag. In the crowd, PAIGE sees one of the demons advancing on TALLIE.)PAIGE: (screaming) Tallie! (PAIGE orbs in front of TALLIE, earning her a red beam to the shoulder. The beam rips through the fabric of her dress and sears into her shoulder, melting it like acid. PAIGE drops to the ground in agony. The demon is about to pounce on her, but at the last minute is lifted off his feet and hurdled through the air. Through bleary eyes, PAIGE sees PRUE’s face above her before everything goes black.)BREAK

Act Four
[Scene: 1708. Pennsylvania. Philadelphia. TRINA and PHOEBE appear holding hands in a town square marketplace. Trina looks shocked.]TRINA: Well this has never happened before. PHOEBE: What? TRINA: Passengers. I’ve only ever come on these trips alone. Our psychic connection must have heightened my powers somehow. (She looks around.) Ooh. Philadelphia. PHOEBE: What? (PHOEBE takes a look around.) How do you know? TRINA: I’ve been to all of the thirteen colonies. (A teenage boy literally walks through her. She shivers and her eyes lock onto him as he moves over to an elderly woman selling apples from a cart. She points.) That’s him. PHOEBE: Who? TRINA: Your ancestor. (PHOEBE whips her head around to look at the teenage boy, seventeen-year-old CHARLES JACKSON.)PHOEBE: Him? (TRINA nods.) How do you know? Trina: I just do. Call it a sixth sense or something, but that’s him. I knew as soon as he walked through me. (CHARLIE is picking up apples and examining them as a teenage GIRL, roughly around his age, walks up. The GIRL is dressed in a white frontage cap, a dark green Mantua over a brown petticoat, and a dark blue cloak with heavy brown mittens. Her clothes and face are covered in dirt and black smudges. She’s holding a picnic style basket which she begins to fill with apples. CHARLIE turns, not noticing the GIRL, and smacks into her basket. The basket falls from the GIRL’s hands and clatters to the ground. CHARLIE gasps as the GIRL yelps and drops to her knees, hurriedly gathering the apples. CHARLIE kneels down to help her.)GIRL: Sorry Sir! Sorry! (CHARLIE shakes his head as he gathers up several of the apples, wipes them off with the sleeves of his shirt, and replaces them in the basket.)CHARLIE: I should be apologizing, Miss. This was all my doing. (The GIRL and CHARLIE reach to put apples into the basket at the same time and their hands hit. They stop and look at each face to face. CHARLIE smiles and the GIRL’s cheeks burn; she quickly looks down at the basket. CHARLIE stands up and offers a hand to help her from the ground. Without looking at him, she takes his hand and rises to her feet.)GIRL: Thank you, Sir! CHARLIE: Please, call me Caleb. TTRINA: Caleb? (She looks strangely at PHOEBE.) I thought you said his name was Charlie? PHOEBE: It is - was - but he was adopted, so I guess they probably raised him with a different name. TRINA: Oh (she nods) that makes sense. CHARLIE: And your name, Miss? (The GIRL blushes again as she avoids eye contact.)GIRL: (embarrassedly) Jane Jacobs. CHARLIE: Jane. (He smiles.) What a lovely name. (JANE shakes her head.)JANE: I do believe you to be confused, Sir. (She pays the old woman at the cart with a few coins and begins to walk away. CHARLIE chases after her.)CHARLIE: Caleb. (JANE glances back at him very briefly.)JANE: Mr. Caleb then. CHARLIE: Caleb Thomas, but you need not bother with the formalities; I find them to sound impersonal. JANE: Then I do believe you are in the wrong town, Mr. Thomas. (She stops at another cart, this time filled with various spices. A middle aged woman is working the stand. She smiles as she sees Jane.)MIDDLE AGED WOMAN: (Irish accent) Ah, Janey! (They exchange hugs.) Come to fetch your mum’s spices for the new week, have you? JANE: Always. (The middle aged woman picks out a few spices and hands them to Jane in exchange for a shiny coin.) Thank you greatly, Mrs. George! MRS. GEORGE: (Irish accent) See you next week, Janey! (JANE walks away and CHARLIE continues to keep in pace with her.)JANE: Is there something terribly the matter, Mr. Thomas? CHARLIE: Excuse me? JANE: You are following me. It is (she glances from side to side) highly inappropriate! CHARLIE: Oh. (He bows his head.) I apologize…again. (pause) I was merely attempting to find a way to make up for causing you to drop your apples back there. (JANE smiles a little, her cheeks flushing slightly again.)JANE: You could allow me to get back home before supper so I can be spared any further un-pleasantries this night. (CHARLIE’s cheeks grow a shade pinker. He stops walking.)CHARLIE: Apologies. (JANE chuckles in spite of herself. As her laugh dissipates, an awkward silence hangs between them. JANE forces a cough and nods.)JANE: Have a lovely evening, Mr. Thomas. (She starts to hurry her pace down the dirt road.)CHARLIE: (calling) Likewise, Miss Jacobs! (pause) Perhaps we shall meet again sometime? JANE: Perhaps. (She hurries away. PHOEBE claps her hand to her hands together.)PHOEBE: That’s so sweet…it’s good to know he took after Melinda instead of Matthew. (She spins back to TRINA.) Is there any way of finding out what happens between them? I know Charlie goes on to have children, so… TRINA: We can give it a shot if you’d like, but I make no promises. The further in the past I go, the easier it is. The closer to the present, the less detailed the past becomes. (She shakes her head.) Please, no jokes about retrospect, thank you. (She takes PHOEBE’s hand and they disappear in a blue flare.)[Scene: Contra Costa. Joerling Farm. Barn. Half the people in the barn are frozen and the demons are nowhere in sight. LEO is standing over PAIGE, healing her shoulder. PAIGE awakens with a gasp.]PAIGE: Tallie? (TALLIE pokes her head over Leo’s.)TALLIE: I’m fine Paige, thanks to you. (LEO helps PAIGE sit up on the floor.)PAIGE: What about the demons? PRUE: They split when Mel froze the barn. PIPER: But I have a sneaking suspicion they’re going to be back. (She holds out a hand to her sister. PAIGE takes it and climbs to her feet. She brushes herself off as she looks around the barn. Several of the unfrozen witches are staring at PRUE, PIPER, and PAIGE.)PAIGE: Oh…okay. (to PRUE and PIPER) I’m starting to feel a little self conscious here. Why is everyone eyeballing us? WITCH #1: Because most of us have never seen that powerful of magic before. WITCH #2: We’re not in the presence of ordinary witches, are we? (The SISTERS share strained looks. A LITTLE BOY in his mother’s arms, around the age of three or so, points excitedly towards the sisters.)LITTLE BOY: Mommy! They’s Charmed! (Murmurs spread across the group. The BOY’s mother clasps her hand over his mouth.)WITCH #3: (embarrassedly) Please excuse him…he doesn’t really know how to keep his telepathy to himself yet. (PAIGE shifts awkwardly on the balls of her feet. Piper suddenly points to LEO.)PIPER: Take the Twins and go find Phoebe. If you’re right about this being a faction, we’re probably going to need the Power of Three. LEO: What about (he motions to the frozen people) them? RUE: We’ll deal with that, just go. (LEO touches the Twins’ stroller and orbs out. The sisters turn back to the crowd.)PAIGE: (muttering) Leo’s right, how are we going to explain what just happened to everyone else once they unfreeze? (WITCH #3 timidly raises her hand. PRUE shifts her eyes.)Prue: Yes? WITCH #3: (timidly) I think I might be able to help…my power can alter memories…I can change their perception of the attack if you need me to. (PRUE, PAIGE, and PIPER look at each other and nod amongst themselves. Finally, PRUE turns to WITCH #3.)PRUE: I’m sorry, what was your name again? WITCH #3: Winter. PRUE: Winter. (She nods.) Alright then, Winter, (she waves her hand) we would greatly appreciate your assistance. (WINTER smiles broadly at her chance to help the Charmed Ones. PIPER, PRUE, and PAIGE just force awkward smiles onto their faces.)[Scene: 1714. Pennsylvania. Philadelphia. Mansion. Living room. PHOEBE and TRINA appear. They see a very pregnant JANE is sitting on a chair in front of a roaring fireplace, rubbing her hands together. Sitting on the floor next to her is a little scruffy brown haired boy about the age of four. He’s fidgeting impatiently as CHARLIE walks into the room. The BOY holds his stomach and scrunches up his face in a pout.]BOY: Hungwy, Momma! JANE: (exasperated) Caleb, you know we cannot dine until Grandmama has finished serving Master Gregory’s family. (She wags a finger at him.) Be still, son! (CALEB folds his arms in a pout. CHARLIE walks over and scoops CALEB off the ground and sits him on his lap.)CHARLIE: Remember when we discussed being a good boy for Grandmama? We would not want Master Gregory upset with her, would we Caleb? (CALEB sticks out his lip and shakes his head. CHARLIE rubs his son’s hair.) Good boy. (SARAH JACOBS, JANE’s mother, enters the room. She’s clothed in a white frontage cap, a long black dress, and a white apron. CALEB hops from his father’s lap and runs to his grandmother, hugging her leg. CHARLIE helps JANE stand up and JANE waddles over to hug her mother. SARAH grins as she pats JANE’s swollen stomach.)SARAH: Janey, I can already tell you are going to have another beautiful boy. Look how low he is! (CALEB impatiently pulls at SARAH’s petticoat.)CALEB: Cookie, Grandmama! (SARAH shakes her head sadly.)SARAH: Oh, Caleb, I apologize, but we haven’t anymore cookies, Master Gregory’s family- (CALEB’s brow creases.)CALEB: I want cookie! SARAH: There are none left, Caleb. (CALEB scrunches up his face and stomps his foot.)CALEB: No! JANE: (warningly) Caleb! (JANE reaches to grab his arm, but he holds up his hand to block her. A hazy blue form of energy bursts from his fingertips and creates a barrier between CALEB and JANE. The barrier then pulsates with sparking blue electricity and blasts JANE onto the floor. SARAH gasps, horrified, and the room becomes silent. CALEB stares in shock at his hand which produced the magic. PHOEBE places her hand to her mouth.)PHOEBE: Oh that’s not good! TRINA: That looked like a demonic power! (She steps away from Phoebe.) Just exactly what kind of ancestors are these? (PHOEBE shakes her head.)PHOEBE: That’s no demonic power, that’s a warlock’s power. (TRINA’s eyes widen.) Oh no! No, no! Don’t get the wrong idea now, I’m not a warlock, I’m a witch! TRINA: Then why do you have warlock ancestors? (PHOEBE parts her lips to respond, but is distracted when an older man rushes into the room. He has slicked hair and is wearing top of the line clothes for the time period.)SARAH: Master Gregory! GREGORY: (demandingly) What is going on in here? (His eyes are drawn to CALEB. He looks to JANE and then down to the boy again. He points.) You! (PHOEBE vanishes.)PHOEBE: What the- (she notices her brother-in-law) Leo! LEO: Phoebe what happened? I’ve been trying to wake you up for three minutes! (He looks at TRINA.) And who is that? PHOEBE: Uh, well, that is Trina (as if on cue, TRINA awakens) and she was helping me do a little family research. (TRINA yelps at the sight of LEO.)TRINA: Who are you?! (She scrambles to her feet and stumbles backwards.) First warlocks and now- LEO: I’m a whitelighter! TRINA: Yeah and I’m a Charmed One! PHOEBE: Actually, that would be me. (TRINA blinks.) Yeah. (PHOEBE flashes a fake grin.) Hi. Leo, Trina, Trina, Leo. (to LEO) By the way, what are you doing here? LEO: Your sisters need your help to vanquish a demonic faction that just attacked. (PHOEBE steals a glance at TRINA, who looks shell shocked.)PHOEBE: Okay, okay. (She holds her hands in surrender.) Trina, I’m sorry, I have to go now, but if we could meet up later, I would really appreciate a chance to explain. (TRINA just stares at her. PHOEBE grabs LEO’s arm.) Let’s go. (LEO grabs the handle on the TWINS’ stroller and orbs away. TRINA touches her forehead.)TRINA: Oh boy... (She faints.)BREAK

Act Five
[Scene: San Francisco. Manor. Attic. PIPER plops the Book of Shadows down in front of PRUE with a thud. It’s open to the page with the demons that attacked at the Lammas celebration.]PIPER: Cressavi Demons. (PRUE blinks.)PRUE: So, we were right; they do multiply. (PIPER gives her a blank look.) “Cressavi” is Latin. PIPER: Right. (She pats the page.) But it gets worse. They multiply by killing, so each time one of the faction members kills someone, a new clone is (she makes air quotes) “born.” (She cringes.) That certainly explains why they chose the festival to attack. Killing all those unsuspecting witches would’ve made their faction grow enormously. (LEO and PHOEBE orb in. PIPER points.)PIPER: Oh good! You’re just in time. (PHOEBE walks over to the Book of Shadows and lifts it into her arms. She grimaces.)PHOEBE: Whoa, these are the nasties we’re up against? “They have the power to incinerate flesh with their eyes.” PIPER: Kinda gross, huh? PHOEBE: One of these tried to attack me this morning. PRUE: What? When? And why didn’t you tell us? PHOEBE: Uh, because it didn’t seem like that big of a deal. I vanquished him with one of our generic potions and I thought that was the last of him. PIPER: Well, apparently not. That demon was part of a faction; the whole reason he was such an easy vanquish was because there are a bunch more just waiting to take his place. PRUE: You’ve got to let us know about things like that, Pheebs. PHOEBE: Prue, I’m a big witch, (PRUE looks as if she’s about to protest so PHOEBE holds up a silencing hand) but I do see your point, okay? (muttering) Decisions always look different in retrospect. (She notices something’s missing.) By the way, where’s Paige? LEO: Back at the farm. She wanted to stay behind in case there were anymore attacks. PHOEBE: So, what are we waiting for? PIPER: The potion. PHOEBE: Really? There’s a potion for a faction? How exactly is that supposed to work? PRUE: We’re going to summon them and when we use the potion, it should have the effect of a very fast acting airborne virus. They’ll breathe it in and then we’ll say the spell and (she flicks her wrists) poof! The wicked demons are dead. PIPER: Speaking of, I’ll go check on that right now. (She leaves.)[Scene: Bus station. Restrooms. A row of five pay phones are positioned on the wall near the restrooms. CHRIS is standing at one of the pay phones, pretending to use it. In his free hand, he’s holding two bus tickets. He keeps looking over his shoulder and then down at his wrist watch.]CHRIS: (impatiently) Come on, where are you? [Scene: Perry Mansion. Abigail’s study. ALEXIS is hunched over a world map with a scrying crystal in her hands. The crystal just keeps circling the map. CRYSTAL is sitting on a chair in a meditative position with her fingers pressed to her temples. The door bursts open and ABIGAIL marches in, causing both ALEXIS and CRYSTAL to look up.]ABIGAIL: Have you located her? ALEXIS: The crystal isn’t dropping. CRYSTAL: And I can’t track her. She’s not shimmering and the spells I’ve tried are failing. I think she must’ve found some way to cloak herself. ABIGAIL: Well, she can’t cloak herself forever. (She waves her hand at her desk. Everything on it vanishes in a flare, only to be replaced with an athame and a silver bowl. ALEXIS abandons her scrying and walks over to the desk with CRYSTAL. ABIGAIL picks up the athame and slices her finger, causing blood to fall from her finger into the pot before her wound heals.) She can’t hide from blood magic. (She holds the athame out to her remaining two daughters.)[Scene: Contra Costa. Joerling Farm. Barn. PRUE, PHOEBE, and LEO orb into the corner of the barn. Many of the people have been cleared out of the barn, leaving only a handful of the truly magical witches that had witnessed the demonic faction attack. Among them are PAIGE and TALLIE. PAIGE waves her sisters and brother-in-law over.]PAIGE: Where’s Piper? LEO: She’s back at the Manor with Twins. Chris was getting fussy, so she just decided to stay. (PHOEBE opens her palm to reveal a potion vial.)PHOEBE: But she did make you a little gift. (PAIGE snatches up the potion.)PAIGE: Great. We’re all set here too. (She indicates the altar that had been set up for the Lammas offerings. The Charmed Ones kneel down before the altar and each take a lit candle.) So uh, how exactly are we going to do this summons? (PRUE pulls an athame from her purse.)PRUE: With a little epidermis. (PRUE presses the blade to her finger and nicks it, slicing off a small piece of her skin. The skin falls into the flame and begins to burn. PRUE passes the athame to PHOEBE, who repeats the process. By the time PHOEBE hands the athame to PAIGE, the latter looks a little pale.)PAIGE: Are you sure it won’t work with just the two of you? PHOEBE: Oh, Paige, come on, you’ve done this a million times. PAIGE: I beg to differ! I have never skinned myself before. PRUE: Oh what? You can slice but you can’t dice? (PAIGE glares.)PAIGE: Well, I’m sorry that I didn’t inherit the self mutilation gene. (PHOEBE snaps her fingers.)PHOEBE: Come on, more hacking less chatting. We’ve all got things we need to get back to. PAIGE: Well, that’s easy for you to say, you didn’t just have your shoulder incinerated. (PAIGE earns glares from her sisters so she finally gives in and presses the blade to her thumb. She looks away and slices a piece of her skin off. It drops into the flame and burns up. PAIGE, PHOEBE, and PRUE take hands.)PRUE, PHOEBE, & PAIGE: “Through the fire we send this rhyme, We sisters three request your time, As our olive branch so fresh, We offer up thrice our flesh.” (The sisters wrinkle their noses as the overbearing smell of burning flesh permeates the air. The smoke from the candles becomes heavy and black. It converges and swirls around the barn. From the smoke steps the Cressavi Faction. The sisters throw their vanquishing potions in unity. Heavy white smoke billows from the vials and streamlines into the nasal passages of the Cressavi Demons.)PRUE, PHOEBE, & PAIGE: “To pain you have been addicted, May you now feel thrice what you have inflicted!” (The skin on the Cressavi Demons begins to bubble and burst. They howl as each one of them melt like butter into puddles and absorb into the ground. Once the vanquish is over, cheers of gratitude echo among the witches in the barn.)[Scene: Bus station. Restrooms. CHRIS slams the phone down on the hook and starts pacing in front of the restroom entrances. He finally spots LYNN in the crowd, holding BIANCA in one arm and lugging a suitcase behind her with the other. CHRIS walks into the crowd to meet her halfway.]CHRIS: I was afraid you weren’t going to come. LYNN: I almost didn’t. (She inhales deeply.) You’ve asked me to trust you and that’s harder than you realize…I’ve been brought up to trust no one. CHRIS: I know that…believe me, (sincerely) I know. (LYNN nods.)LYNN: I don’t know what it is, but something about you tells me that you’re being truthful. (She swallows.) So I’m putting our lives in your hands (she shakes her head) and I don’t even know your name. (CHRIS looks down at the bus tickets in his hands. He holds them out to her.)CHRIS: There are two connections, one in Colorado and one in Pennsylvania. After you change buses in Pennsylvania, your last stop will be in Rhode Island, (LYNN's mouth falls into an “O” shape) once there, you’re on your own. (LYNN takes the tickets. She keeps shaking her head.)LYNN: (shocked) Oh my god… (She looks at BIANCA, who is still asleep with her head on LYNN’s shoulder.) We always (her voice cracks) dreamed of settling down there. (She blinks and wipes her eyes with her sleeve.) I don’t know how to ever thank you. (CHRIS nods to BIANCA.)CHRIS: Just keep her safe. (LYNN nods and sniffs.)LYNN: I will. (She looks down at the bus tickets. CHRIS points.)CHRIS: It’ll be that bus over there. (LYNN nods. They share looks and then she starts to walk away. CHRIS hesitates.) CHIRS: Chris. (LYNN looks back.)LYNN: What? CHRIS: It’s Chris. My name is Chris. (A tear falls down her cheek.)LYNN: Thank you, Chris. (LYNN goes to the bus and climbs on. CHRIS watches as LYNN takes a window seat and slowly begins to run her fingers through BIANCA’s hair. The doors to the bus shut and the engine roars to life. As the bus begins to pull out, CHRIS notices a spiral of red spheres of light swirl around LYNN and BIANCA. His eyes swell.)CHRIS: No! (He starts running towards the bus.) No! (LYNN and BIANCA disappear, leaving the seat on the bus empty. The bus pulls out and drives away.) CHRIS: God damnit! [Scene: Golden Gate Park. CRYSTAL and ALEXIS are seated on the marble benches, while ABIGAIL is leaning against one of the angel statues. A swathe of red lights deposits LYNN and BIANCA in the middle of the circle of angel statues. LYNN starts to shake her head. She clutches BIANCA.]LYNN: No! ABIGAIL: Didn’t think we’d find you? LYNN: You can’t have her! ABIGAIL: She’s a Phoenix- LYNN: She’s a little girl! ABIGAIL: She has no choice. (She pulls her arms out from behind her back, revealing gloved hands with one clutching an athame.) You have no choice, Lynn. (She shimmers behind LYNN and presses the tip of the athame to BIANCA’s back.) Let go of her. (LYNN is shivering.)LYNN: No…please. (ABIGAIL leans close to LYNN’s ear.)ABIGAIL: (whispering) Let go. (ALEXIS approaches. She holds out her arms.)ALEXIS: Let me have her, Lynn. She won’t be hurt, I promise. (LYNN shakes her head, but ALEXIS gently extracts the child from her arms anyway. ALEXIS shakes her head sympathetically.) I’m sorry. (ALEXIS shimmers away. A blue glow reflects off the ground from behind one of the angel statues. CHRIS peers his head around it in time to see CRYSTAL walk up to LYNN as ABIGAIL whispers something else into her ear. He raises his hand, but is too preoccupied to notice a white glow appear behind him. He starts to twist his arm when he becomes stationary. MELINDA peers around the statue in time to see ABIGAIL plunge her athame into LYNN’s heart. MELINDA closes her eyes and ducks back behind the statue. She looks at her frozen brother and shakes her head.)MELINDA: (quietly) I know you don’t understand this, Chris, but the future is counting on us. Without Bianca, we can’t get back here, and if we don’t get back here, we can’t save the future. (She closes her eyes.) I hope one day that will make sense to you. (MELINDA lifts her hand and CHRIS unfreezes. CHRIS immediately sees that ABIGAIL and CRYSTAL are gone, but LYNN is lying on the ground in a puddle of her own blood.)CHRIS: No! (He turns and sees MELINDA standing there.) How could you? (MELINDA just stares at him. CHRIS runs over to LYNN and kneels down. He tries to feel for a pulse, but there is none.) No, this can’t be it. (He motions his hand, telekinetically pulling the athame from LYNN’s back and dropping it on the ground next to her.) Come on, reconstitute! (LYNN doesn’t move. CHRIS places his hands to his head and grips his temples. From her vantage point next to the stone angel, MELINDA cups her mouth.)MELINDA: I’m so sorry… BREAK

Act Six
[Scene: San Francisco. Manor. Dining room. PHOEBE is sitting at the dining table with her laptop open. The Internet is up and a website titles “Family History: Find Your Ancestors!” is up on screen. There’s a dinging noise and a box appears in the corner of the screen reading, “Retrospective101: Hey! Did you check out that site I recommended?” PHOEBE clicks the reply box and types, “Yes! I already found a marriage record for Charlie and Jane, but I had to pay to unlock the full records. I’m having them mailed to me.” She clicks “Send” and the message appears under Retrospective101’s, from PHOEBE’s own screen name, “Charm3d1.” PHOEBE picks up a cup of coffee and takes a sip. She presses her fingers to the keys again and types, “BTW, how’re you feeling?” She sends the message. A few moments later another ding sounds and Rerospetive101’s message replies, “Better. I think I just overloaded myself the other day. I’ve never had to exert that much power during a session before…mainly because I’ve never brought anyone else with me before.” PHOEBE starts to type another message back when PRUE walks in, munching on a buttered scone.]PRUE: Whatcha up to? (PHOEBE looks up.)PHOEBE: Trina just I-M-ed me. PRUE: The one with the astral time travel powers? PHOEBE: Yeah. (PRUE sits down next to her.) By the way, (she slides a paper across the table to PRUE) look at this! (PRUE shifts her eyes over the paper.)PRUE: It looks like a confirmation for a credit card purchase. (PHOEBE nods eagerly.) And this is a good thing? PHOEBE: Yes, (she points) look! PRUE: Historical records? PHOEBE: Yeah! (She grins.) Isn’t that exciting? My little 3-D viewing of the past gave me a great handful of information to start researching with. (Another ding comes from PHOEBE’s laptop. PRUE looks at her watch.) You wouldn’t believe how far first and last names can get you with genealogy research. PRUE: (playfully) Who woulda thunk it? Names, (she rolls her eyes) helpful in family research. (PHOEBE playfully hits PRUE’s arm.)PHOEBE: Seriously though, I have a good feeling about this! I really think I could find some useful information. (PRUE looks at the bill again.)PRUE: Yeah, for fifty bucks a pop. PHOEBE: If it ends up helping us understand Red, then I say it’s worth it. (She shrugs.) Besides, I’d kind of like to know just for myself anyway. (There’s another ding on PHOEBE’s laptop, which prompts PRUE to look at her watch.)PRUE: Ooh, I gotta go. (She gets up.) Happy hunting! (She winks and leaves. PHOEBE returns to typing.)[Scene: Perry Mansion. Bianca’s bedroom. BIANCA and ALEXIS are sitting on BIANCA’s bed. ALEXIS is brushing BIANCA’s hair.]BIANCA: Auntie Alexis? ALEXIS: Yes sweetheart? BIANCA: Has Grandma found Mommy yet? (ALEXIS stops brushing BIANCA's hair.)ALEXIS: I’m sorry sweetheart, but we still don’t know where she is. BIANCA: Auntie Alexis? ALEXIS: Hmm? BIANCA: Do you really think the lady from the pool brainwashed Mommy? ALEXIS: Grandma Abby believes it. BIANCA: But do you? (She turns around to look at her aunt. ALEXIS purses her lips.)ALEXIS: Yes, I do. (BIANCA drops her eyes to the comforter. ALEXIS gets off the bed and places the hairbrush on the dresser.)BIANCA: Auntie Alexis, could you take me to the park? (ALEXIS hesitates.) Please? (ALEXIS forces a smile.)ALEXIS: Sure, sweetie, (she takes her niece’s hand) whatever you want. (They shimmer off.)[Scene: South Bay Social Services. Paige’s cubicle. A couple vanilla scented candles are lit on PAIGE’s workspace. She’s sitting in her chair with a book titled “A Witch’s Guide to Wicca” with a cover picture of an altar with a pentacle in the background hiding her face. LILA WRIGHT bounds up to PAIGE’s cubicle.]LILA: Paige! Paige! (PAIGE pulls her book down to reveal her face.)PAIGE: Hey, you’re preppy this morning. LILA: You have no idea! (She’s beaming. PAIGE closes her book and sets it on her desk.)PAIGE: So? (She nods anxiously.) What’s all the to-do about? (LILA purses her lips and then suddenly thrusts the back of her left hand at PAIGE. PAIGE recoils and then realizes a small diamond ring is sparkling on her friend’s finger. PAIGE gasps and starts to shake her head.)LILA: Can you believe it?! PAIGE: (shocked) Billy? LILA: (squealing) Yes! Who else? (PAIGE jumps up and hugs LILA.)PAIGE: Oh my gosh, honey that’s great! LILA: I know! (She shakes her head.) And seriously, I never really saw myself as the marrying type before, but now…I can’t wait! (She takes a deep breath.) And Paige? PAIGE: What? LILA: I want you to be my Maid of Honor! PAIGE: (shocked) Really? LILA: Will you? (PAIGE hugs LILA again.)PAIGE: Of course I will. [Scene: Golden Gate Park. PIPER and LEO are sitting on a bench near a playground. BABY MELINDA HALLIWELL and BABY CHRIS HALIWELL are in baby carriers on the grass in front of their parents. SHELIA MORRIS is sitting on the grass, playing with the Twins. A little ways off, DARRYL MORRIS is pacing and talking on the phone.]
[Cut to a playground. A bunch of little children, including DJ MORRIS, ALICIA MORRIS, and BIANCA are playing a game of tag. A LITTLE BLOND BOY tags DJ.]LITTLE BLOND BOY: Tag! You’re it. No tag backs. (The LITTLE BLOND BOY sticks his tongue out and runs away, giggling. DJ only hesitates a second before going after his older sister. ALICIA and two other little girls run away laughing, trying not to get caught. DJ decides to go after someone else. He spots BIANCA, who looks sad and goes after her. She isn’t paying attention and DJ lightly tags her.)DJ: Tag, you’re it, Bianca! (He smiles.) No tag backs. (DJ runs off and BIANCA goes for the closest group. The kids scatter in different directions.)[Cut to Chris. He is leaning against a thick tree opposite the bench his family is on. He is watching the kids who are laughing and playing. His gaze follows the little dark-haired girl as she chases the other kids. He let’s out an audible sigh.]
[Cut to Bianca. She senses that she is being watched. She stops chasing the kids and turns around. BIANCA sees CHRIS lurking next to a tree and their eyes lock as a gust of wind blows through the air, messing her hair and swaying the leaves of the trees. Not a second later, CHRIS breaks contact and goes behind the three, where fading blue lights are barely visible.]ALICIA: Hey, Bianca! (BIANCA blinks and turns around. She runs at another group and tags an older boy.)BIANCA: (smiling) Tag. You’re it!
