So we already know that the Democrats will be making history this year: they'll either be giving their nomination to a Woman or an African-American. (I'm an Independent, by the way. ) But I heard a question the other day which sort of made me wonder... Does anyone think it's possible that there could be a Clinton/Obama or Obama/Clinton ballot? Now don't yet at me! I'm just curious as to people's opinions and thoughts on this. At one point, they were campaigning pretty hard (and by that I mean it was starting to get a little nasty) and now they are on much better terms, so it just makes me wonder. Personally, I don't think that if Obama got the nomination, he would ask Hillary to be his Running Mate. (I have my doubts that she would accept second best, either.) But, I could see Hillary perhaps asking Obama to be her Running Mate if she got the Democratic nomination. (I haven't decided yet if he would accept second best or not.) If something like this were to happen, what would the impact be? Historical, definitely. But would it be enough to win the White House? Hillary is extremely iconic, which is why I don't believe she has enough votes to win the Presidency (especially against McCain). But, she does appear to be holding the vote with women and Latinos, according to the polls. Obama on the other hand, has a very strong power base in the black vote, men's vote, and the youth vote. Would a "dream ticket" like this be something that would unite people or divide them? (Among the Democrats, if you watched the polls, it was INSANELY close. I mean, I think Missouri was given to Obama and just about 10,000 votes separated them. They traded victories all night long. Hillary won delegate rich states, but Obama won more states overall as well as Southern States that usually do far better with Republicans, making him, according to what I've heard and read, an even bigger threat.) The saying that comes to mind right now is from the late (RIP) Commander in Chief: "You can have a woman or a black guy, but not both." - Dickie McDonald, in reference to the idea of Jim Gardner (the African-American Republican Chief of Staff to the first female Independent President, Mackenzie Allen) possibly becoming Mac's Vice President

Before calling it a dream ticket, I think the question has to also be asked of how many Democrats are voting for Obama because they don't like Hillary or for Hillary because they don't like Obama?
I fall firmly in the former category. I'm not completely sold on Obama, but do not not not want Hillary in the White House. So if that ticket were joined, then I may find myself voting (ick) Republican...
(Likewise I've heard of and even personally know some people who are worried about Obama having attended muslim jihadist school for most of his life before being put in a catholic school for a few years.)

Both Obama and Hillary are backed to take the White House over here in the UK, with most polls going more in Obama's favour however both doing considerably better than the rest while McCain is barely scrapping two percent of the votes in all of the polls I've seen on British websites. I'm backing Obama as I think Clinton makes me shriek...she's such manipulative cow who couldn't take the heat in the kitchen.
I'm not being sexist there as I would love to see a woman in charge but Hillary Clinton makes me want to back the crazy Iran hating Republican!

Hence the reason for the thread. (FYI, it was in quotes because that's how I heard it phrased in some online article I read last week.) I think that a ticket like that would either be brilliant (in the sense that a lot of people would rally around it) or it would be an utter disaster. Personally, I think I'd probably vote for it, but it wouldn't be my first choice. Like I've said before, I really like Obama and I want him as President, and I don't see an Obama/Clinton ticket happening. (Though it would be flipping awesome if Obama did pick a competant woman as his Running Mate! Although, I have my doubts about that happening either.)

Really? That's so awesome, I didn't know that! I wish those polls would rub off over here. I cannot stand McCain! I think the only one worse is Huckabee, though I didn't believe from the start that he was as much a threat as McCain. I will say that he did prove to be more powerful than I originally thought, though, which is absolutely frightening!! ( How dare he think that he can change the Constitution to match his sick views of his god. People like that shouldn't be anywhere near power! )

I think here in the UK we take who the candiates are very seriously, we've never had a problem with whether they are male or female, black or white...it's who's best for the job. Yes we've made mistakes but we're pretty open minded. As I said I'm backing Obama!

I really agree with that, we talked about this presidential campaign so much in my AP History class. But we all seem to like Obama haha, I'm from California. Obama!

I'm hoping now more than ever that Obama chooses anyone other than Hillary as his running mate. Her not conceding, or officially endorsing Obama (She gave him a couple half compliments...but after all the character & leadership attacks towards the end of the campaign she didn't offer much) after he won the needed delegates is absolutely pathetic. "She's making no decisions tonight" "She's going to advise democratic party leaders on the best way forward" Really? Because I could have sworn that she had acknowledged to a few personal friends...who happen to work for the national media that she'd accept the VP role on the Obama ticket. So her speech tonight just seems so...classless and immature. To me it'd be like the team losing the Stanley Cup Finals this week *let's go Pens!*, or that World Series, or Superbowl, refusing to shake the hands of their opponents after they were beaten fair and square. It's pathetic. Ya lost beeitch, get over it.
And speaking of pathetic? Did you hear about the group of super delegates who got together and decided not to cast their vote for either candidate? Yeah way to represent your districts you indecisive asshats.

Personally I don't trust any candidate. They're all blood sucking bugs. Democrats and Republicans...I don't like either side.
The only person I'd vote for is Bob Dole because he talks in the third person.

I'm so glad Obama won the nomination! But I, too, hope he doesn't choose her as his running mate. He has been proposing change throughout his entire campaign and if he brings in Clinton, who is old blood in the political arena, it will have all been for not.
I do, however, hope he does end up choosing a female running mate! It probably won't be as powerful as an Obama/Clinton ticket (I think they'd definitely win if they were combined), but it would be wonderful nonetheless. I'll keep my fingers crossed (even though most people keep saying he'll probably pick "some white guy").

I wanted Obama to win although I was sure that Clinton would. I'm very glad that Obama won.
I do think though that he will pick Clinton as his running mate although I hope he doesn't.

From his statements when asked about such a ticket, I get the feeling that he really doesn't want to do that. I think the only way he would is if he felt he was in pretty bad shape and really needed her loyal supporters. (I really hope that doesn't happen, but then again, he did take a lot of hard blows because of his pastor's comments, and people just keep spinning things from that, which isn't helping anything.)

So Obama chooses an boring old liberal politics as usual bureaucrat as a running mate...and holy crap McCain chooses a female Washington outsider Alaska governor Sarah Palin??? What is going on.
That is one hella of a move by the McCain party, in addition to probably putting a sizable dent in the female vote (especially spurned Hillary supporters...McCain's questionable health suddenly puts a woman a literal heart beat away from being PoTUS) her son recently enlisted in the military, so that could help with the military demographic, not to mention this completely blows up Obama's argument about McCain having no energy reform platform. (given the work she's been doing with Alaska oil reform).
And get this her 7 year old daughter is named PIPER! Coincidence...or Charmed fan? (She also has a daughter named Willow.)
Now I'm kinda torn...

McCain picked a woman?!
*head bang*
WHY?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
I was really holding out for Obama to pick a woman. I blame this on Hillary, though, since picking a woman other than her would've made an even bigger party divide in my opinion.
Have I mentioned recently how much I hate McCain? Well, I do! VERY MUCH! And this just makes it worse. As much as I'd like to see a woman become a VP, I will never vote for Bush: The Archaic Version.
I was pretty upset when Obama picked Biden and this just makes it so much worse. *head bang* McCain picking a woman, as much as I hate to say it, was purely a political stunt, but what else can you expect from the guy? I can't stand him!

Okay, I just did a little digging on Palin's stances and discovered she's one of those ones who wants creationism to be taught in schools. I'm hell bent on religion NEVER being taught in schools, so I'm starting to feel a little better about my continued hate for the McCain camp.
She's also Anti-Same-Sex Marriage, another HUGE hot button for me.
I'll continue to research her further though.
